The 1.4 is the current version. You can see instructions on how to put it together and closeup pictures at [reprap.org]

It's very handy when you're doing things with a whole bunch of wires as you just screw them down and if you need to move them, just unscrew and rewire. I understand that putting wires directly into the Ardunio board is assumed to be a more permanent thing.

A quick changelog compiled from the different versions of these instructions is:

- Version 1.0 didn't work properly
- Version 1.1
* Added ground plane.
* Added 3rd row of screw terminals (w/ lots of power outputs)
* Added reset button.
* Moved D0/D1 back to main screw terminal.
* Resized board slightly.
- Version 1.2 ????
- Version 1.3 adds an extra row of power/ground screw terminals.
- Version 1.4 fixes a potential short problem, and adds additional female headers to allow shield stacking.

A breakout board for Arduino, means that all the pins that can be found on an arduino are put on a big board where you can put the elektrical wires in without soldering. This board is placed on top of an arduino.

Very handy when you have thick wires and you want to connect them to your arduino without soldering.

V1.4 means that it is version 1, revision 4.
