        <description> Quick video I made showing the slicing speeds of Slic3r vs Simplify3D software. Model was the Theodore Roosevelt model featured on Thingiverse. I used NetFabb to scale the model up 200%, then ran it through both Slic3r and Simplify3D to compare their slicing speeds.

Cliffs:
Slic3r successfully sliced the model in approx 1min25 seconds. Simpliy3D sliced the same model in ~6seconds.</description>

            <description><![CDATA[ I tried to match the settings up as best as I could, the only thing I didnt change for either was speed. anything having to do with movement speed i kept it at each respective programs' defaults. another thing I changed was for slic3r, I usually have it set to infill every other layer to speed up time of printing.<br />
<br />
layer height: .18mm<br />
infill: 15%<br />
infill type: rectilinear<br />
top solid layers: 5<br />
bottom solid layers: 3 <br />
shells: 2<br />
no supports or rafts<br />
<br />
loading up the slic3r file to Pronterface gives an estimate 4 hour 21 min and 31 second print job.<br />
Simplify3D, advertised as its own all-in-one software, interfaces with the printer as a host and gives the following "Build Statistics":<br />
Build time: 225.75min (3.76 hr)<br />
Filament length: 7421.0mm<br />
Material cost: $2.80<br />

Simplify3D also gives the option to save the gcode file, so I did that and loaded it up into Pronterface and Pronterface gave the estimate of <br />
3hr 58min 28 seconds.<br />
<br />
Again, the difference in speed of printing is clearly not a "victory" for Simplify3D as these are just the default speeds each respective programs were set to. I'm sure if I upped the speed on Slic3r there would be no issue.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[ It has been known for a very long time that Slic3r is terribly slow, Sound even said in an interview that speed was not a concern which is why I avoid the slicer(not to mention new bugs every release).  The Kisslicer developer appears to have returned and KISS was awesome about 9 months ago and still works great so I imagine now that development is active again it will be the go to slicer.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[ I think the speed that a program can slice is important, but it is also a silly metric to look at all on it's own. <br />

I'm going to presume that the settings between the two programs were as close to the same as possible, but what were the EXACT configuration settings?  With each slicer, what was the total print time to print the item after it was sliced?  While one took 14 times longer than the other, if it prints faster or has better quality then the longer slicing times may be worth it. How to the two compare with organic vs inorganic shapes? <br />
<br />
I look at the slicing program like a programming language compiler.  While you don't want the compiler to be dog slow, but overall you're spending very little of your development cycle compiling (usually).   Much more time is spent developing, or running your application.  Similarly, more time is spend developing a 3D object and actually printing it then what it takes to slice it up.]]></description>
