have anyone used Quartz as thermal insulator? Good morning everyone, I'm about to experiment with a hotend design that utilizes a quartz tube as insulator. Have anyone had already experimented with this material before ? If not, i will post results as I start experimentation. Quartz has high thermal resistance and is it very hard material. Therefore, it is a good choice to use it as a thermal insulator. But machining quartz requires high precision and accuracy. Make sure you do it very carefully.

Quartz it's also machinable with diamond tip tools and it is not expensive to get it. 2 pieces already tapered for $ 12.00 each. Maximum operational temperature 1100 degrees and do not suffer from thermal shocks.

What advantage does a quartz tube as an insulator get you? Usually quartz is used for it's thermal strength and dimensional stability, not for it's thermal conductivity. Strength and stability doesn't really get you any benefit for how we use them.

It sounds like he's using it for the heat break I would guess, or above that?
