Minor question about converting to 1.75mm filament

Minor question about converting to 1.75mm filament I am just about to convert my Prusa i3 from 3mm to 1.75mm filament. My setup is a gregs-wade direct extruder, sitting over a genuine E3Dv6. I know how to convert the hot-end, and I know that I have to drill the hole in the extruder so that I can fit the 4mm bowden. What I need to know is whether to use the bowden clip in the top of the E3Dv6's heatsink - I imagine that it would be simpler to leave it out, but I don't know how that would affect the function. I have an E3D v6 mated to a BullDog XL extruder and I left the Bowden tube clip in the top of the hot end and it has been working great for over a year. I may be wrong, but I believe the clip keeps the teflon tube inside the hot-end in place and if you remove the clip you'll need to have some other means of preventing the tube from lifting when the extruder retracts filament.
