Should you disable UBL before starting a UBL bed probe? (no replies)

Hi all,

This is a Legacy Marlin 1.1.8 question.
I have an old Folger Tech Kossel 2020 with an E3Dv6 and a physical probe that needs detached that puts the point dead-on the nozzle and 32mm lower.

Should you disable the current UBL mesh before starting a UBL probe run?
I am wondering about interactions.
I ran my three towers, got them all about perfect with a 0.1mm feeler gauge and my 0,0 was -0.05.
I did a UBL run, got pretty good bed level and printed all but an extreme corner on my Delta well.

Then to experiment, I set up and ran a G33 calibration, saved it, ran G29 to to do another bed level after saving the offset adjusts and tower angle trims.
Total flub, the tip was too close to the bed. I won't do that again!
So then I wiped the G33 trims from the source, pulled the source in and M500, clean start...
I disabled UBL (G29 D)
bed leveled my towers and checked my zero, all pretty good, then ran another UBL pass and it said most of the bed was -1.xx! What?

So, where am I going wrong?
Is G33 (delta calibration) a bad idea if you get your bed apparently level, or a bad idea in general?
Can you do a UBL bed level with UBL currently enabled? The UBL pages and demo code don't seem to.

It seems the more I try to do, the worse things get! It seems I should have left well enough alone.

(edit 1)
I turned off UBL, leveled the plate using 0.2mm feeler (maybe 0.1 is too agressive), got a 0,0,0 measure at between 0.2 and 0.25. Did a "bed level" print out to the extreme printable edge of 90mm radius that looked perfect. So, I am considering doing a UBL bed level to see what it comes up with, but never turn it on...
( )

(Edit 2)
I found it. My switch had moved up around a mm on its mount because the screw holes were larger than the screws and when the probe had an "aggressive meet with the bed" it pushed it up. Did new probe height and things NOW come out right. Always check your assumptions...
Move along, move along, nothing to see here...
()

Any suggestions welcome!

Be well,
I am looking for a URL, or maybe a text file from several years ago, possibly before 2018. This was a list which included most of the commercial as well as RepRap and published maker-built FFF 3D printers. Although there may have been other details, I do remember that this included a classification of the type of kinematic mechanism used by each printer. There were many printers included, possibly over a hundred types.
I’m building a 3D printer with Arduino Mega + RAMPS 1.4 and I’d like to add a touchscreen display to control it (menus, axis movement, temperatures, print from SD, etc.).
I’ve seen options like the MKS TFT and BigTreeTech TFT screens, but I’m not sure which models work properly with RAMPS 1.4 or how exactly they should be connected (only through EXP1/EXP2 or also through the serial port).

Hello, After some time out of my work updating some wiki pages (broken videos tags, broken links and updating firmware pages to indicate if their now deprecated) and working in translating them into french. I want to also update some pages like RepRap Wiki - Cost Reduction but I want for the actual version to be linked to the new version as legacy.
What do we have to do to change the name of the actual page to after create a new page with the actual name (so that the new page is linked to the actual url so that everyone clicking that link goes to the new page that has a banner pointing to the old version for legacy purposes.

if it's not possible, it is possible to link to an historic version of that page?

Edit: I've come across the rename function in the wiki, it's the way to go for my need, but your appreciation whether I Link the new page on the old (adding a banner cross referencing without renaming the original page) or the other way around (adding a banner cross referencing with renaming the original page).
Edit 2: Here is the WIP of the Cost Reduction Updated and it's original and legacy version Cost Reduction

Hello everyone.

This my first post on this forum, so I hope I have the right location.

Anyway, I have just obtained a faulty Leapfrog Bolt Pro, very cheaply, however it has been worked on and some parts are missing.
I'm still trying to figure out whats missing, and as Leapfrog have now closed, the amount of information online is pretty sparse.
So far I see its missing the following parts.
Raspberry Pi board.
The attached fan board.
The touch screen.
If anyone can please send and close up photos of the Raspberry Pi assembly, and let me know what the daughter board with the fan is, it would help immensely.
Additionally, if there is a wiring interconnection schematic anywhere, that would ease my work as well.
Lastly has anyone modified one of these machines using other controllers etc? This may be a route I need to go down.

Thanks in advance.

I've been away from 3D printing for a while and now want to do some upgrades for my DIY 3D printer. I'm going to replace the fixed buildtak surface with a spring steel magnet system as the surface has tears, holes and it's very bumpy. That's part of the reason I've been away from 3D printing for a while.

It's based on 3.00/2.85mm diameter filament. I still use my DIY printed cold end bowden fishbone extruder and I'm looking to replace it with something a little bit more beefy and accurate.

I've found this but it's out of stock:
[nl.aliexpress.com]

Though the bondtech is a little pricey. I'm looking to spend like 20-70 euros max.

Is 3.00mm diameter stuff dead? Is 1.75 the way to go now? That would be a shame for my 3mm hot end E3D v6 I believe to be replaced. And still a decent amount of 3.00 filament that I still have in stock.

Any advise is appreciated!

Suggestions for all-metal hot-end (no PTFE tube)? (3 replies)

I'm thinking about getting back into 3D printing after a bit of a hiatus, and am considering some upgrades to my old Portabee (Printrbot-style) printer.

I already upgraded the old 3mm hot end to a V6-clone 1.75mm hot end. However, it uses a PTFE tube, which I'm starting to get worried about. Though I only print in PLA, I'm still worried about over-heating the PTFE tube and creating unwanted fumes.

I think the solution to this is to get an "all-metal hot end", but searching on the Amazon Japan site (which is where I would be ordering from), I noticed that some so-called "all-metal" hot ends still use a PTFE tube. For example, this page shows assembly instructions for a so-called "E3D v6 All-Metal HotEnd", but it shows use of a PTFE tube -- and includes instructions to heat the hot end to 250 degrees C after inserting the PTFE tube.

Maybe my terminology of "all-metal" is wrong, but what I'm interested in is a hot end that does not use any PTFE.

Do you have any suggestions for 2025 for a good all-metal hot end, for printing PLA, that does not use any PTFE? About how much should I expect to pay? Would it work for printing PLA?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

----

P.S. I noticed that [forum.prusa3d.com] says "The the "all metal" design produced by E3D, there is PTFE but only up in the cold end that never gets hot", so maybe the PTFE tube is not really a concern in this hot-end (V6-style)?

does anyone know what causes stopping extruder motor in the middle of
TMC 2208 steppers. Everything worked fine, did some succesful prints
but now extruder motor stops in the middle of print while all axes still moving.
Extruder is not clogged, just motor does not moving - it happen in the middle of the print.
I changed for new motor, new stepper, changed voltage 0,8-1,2 and it is the same behaving.

Hello guys,
I would like to ask for experience with MKS GEN-L V2.1 board.
I use til now Ramps 1.4 on Arduino Mega and wanted to try
new board that can handle 24V. Because it is board 12/24 I wanted to set it up first on 12V.
So I just reconnected cables from actual Ramps/Mega setup I have for years.

After reconnecting cables I turned it on and probably something was shorted
on the board. There are two little things with numbers on it 15 and 30 very close to main
power connectors. I searched for it and it is probably called continuous fuses. I tried to measure the one
one that look shorted - 30- (cloud around) and I measured 12V. The another one -15- looks ok, but
measured nothing on it.

Actually board worked ok, moving, homing...
I tried to heat up extruder and it behave strange, I set up just 40°C, but temperature
raised so quickly and on 50° it stopped with some time out or something on display.
After that I turned off-on machine and tried to heat up bed and then my 12V power supply was shorted.

I controlled cables, everything is exactly same I had on Ramps/Mega I used for years.
Power source I had 12V30A

Does anyone know what was wrong, what could happen ?

Hi, I am currently working on a project that deals with the design of an extruder (hot end+cold end) that should allow conventional FFF 3D printers to directly process metal alloys such as aluminum or zinc alloys. Imagine if your printer would be able to process not only PLA, ABS, PETG , but also metals after minor modification. You could then produce components with greater strength and durability. This proposed extruder would work with metal wire, which is used for welding, for example. I would need to know your opinion on this new opportunity. If such a thing existed, would you be interested? What benefits do you think it could have for you? What problems could it pose for you? Any opinion is valuable to me thank you.

So a few teething issues as follows any help would be much appreciated please.

I apologise if my terminology is poor this side of machine building is definately not my forte but willing to learn !

Im wanting to home both X and Y axis at MINIMA or front left as i keep calling it

Is my config in the correct order ?

Im using a Millenium Milo file as my basis to get started

[github.com]

So have done a fresh flash and onto my wifi network all good
Z axis direction is good and homes at top of travel and the Maxima travel downwards direction is spot on and stops at 350

The X axis on X homing travels in the wrong direction X+ in movements of 5mm everytime the home X button is pressed ?

The Y axis on Y homing travels in the wrong direction Y+ and the additional stepper (A) on the Y axis moves further than the Y stepper by double the amount at a rough guess maybe microstepping need a definition for the A drive ?

Once the second ( slow home ) home on the Z drive is done it needs to move further away from the limit stop as its still resting on it if this is an issue ? This maybe the case for all 3 axis (edited)

Good afternoon All,

I am trying to ubuild a 4 Axis 3D printer from an Open source , this one

[github.com]

With the slicer this one:

[github.com]

Would any one help me PLEASE to understand the concept of the files System of Reprap and how to load the ReapRap Firmware to the Controller Board I have mentioned above.

I was told that, in order for the slicer to work I will have to load the .G codes where the Python files are, but how and where Please?

And last but not least, how to prepare the SD card for this particular project please.

The Parts I am printing at the moment the most important part of the whole project relies on your kind help and responses.

Actually yes I am retired Old Engineer but I have not yet understood the concept of RepRap Firmware and its implications at this point in time.

My deepest thanks to all.
