I spoke with VXB yesterday and found out that they are supplying case hardened precision linear shafts instead of the oil hardened drill rod; that is the reason for the discrepancy. You are getting a better product from them for that $30 than you are for the $15 plus shipping from McMaster on the oil hardened shafts.

oddly enough, I just got my kit9060. it was a great price and the bearings look prime.

I don't know what's up with the kit that includes the smooth rods. Being wrong about your price point in the marketplace is hardly a crime. Maybe they had some new-old stock lying around from another project that they're trying to move? Regardless, I'm happy to give my feedback and opinion to the Reprap community and I hope someone benefits from it.

I ordered my kit late in the afternoon on 9/10 online, and I was not able to chose shipping for some reason. A quick call to customer support resolved the issue. I got the requested slow & cheap shipping (~$5) and they were at my box this morning (Sep 15).

@Pica - I have no influence or stake in VXB, they were the only supplier that was willing to offer discounted packages to this group when I inquired. I did provide feedback to them in regards to this price. I think that this price was originally set up when the bearing kit was $10 more so they might be willing to come down on it.

an extra $30 is a little steep unless you are allergic to a hacksaw. Even then you'll somehow need to get the threaded rod and other hardware parts, so it's an order to McMaster-Carr or someone else anyway.

Might I recommend # 88625K67 at 3 x $4.88. It's almost half the price. I've gotten mine, and it looks smooth and usable as far as I can see.

Of course, if they're hardened,precision ground, stainless steel, it's probably worth the price paid.

No problem.

Just had a quick thought (dangerous those), if VXB also included the belts in the kit, VXB would definitely be a one stop shop.

In New Zealand, the closest supplier is in Australia, and they appear to be a small business, so my concern is that they will maybe one not sell those belts.

Though it looks like the additional 3 608 bearings have been removed.

Just gives more incentive to buy all those bits from them, and they are still cheaper than locally bought.

I spoke with Sam again yesterday and he has now added an additional 3 - 608 bearings to the kit so you can build Wade's Geared extruder without having to order additional bearings. Even better, he kept the price the same as it was before!

I'm just now starting to gather material for building a mendel and the bearing kit was the first thing I just bought. (:D

I just ordered from VXB and at check out I used the Amazon purchase option. $4.99 shipping to Pennsylvania so the total was $54.94.

Now I need to figure out how I'm going to get/make the electronics.

I am happy with the product that I received and I feel that I got good value for my money. The shipment was prompt and arrived per their estimate; it was in a bubble packed envelope and the bearings were in plastic tubes to keep them clean. Plus, they came from California not Germany so transit time was shorter.

Unfortunately I am in the US, so they don't even list USA as a shipping option. Does anyone know if they ship to the USA? At the moment they are out of stock of bearings as well

[www.reprapsource.com] also sell a kit [www.reprapsource.com] at 29.79EUR(40.86USD) so that's slightly cheaper depending on shipping and if you you're ordering other things at the same time that they also sell.

I spoke with the guys at VXB today to see if they were open to kitting the bearings for Mendel. They responded positively with a kit of 48 - 624 bearings and 2 - 608 bearings for $49.95
