Hi,

i have to do a little bit of digging in this old topic.
I have 3D printer with backlash (and i can't fix it mechanicaly).
Script above works quite nice, but generater another problem. Because it's another move added to gcode, printhead stops for a second in place, where backlash is compensated.
In this place small blob is appearing. Would it be possible, to add retraction before backlash compensation?
Or are there better scripts to compensate backlash?
I have duet WiFi in my printer.

Hi all,

All the versions of software mentioned in this post only does linear movement, G0, G1 etc.
However, arc movements, G2 & G3 has not been coded.

I have create a web based GCode modifier that will allow for software backlash compensation.

All GRBL movements commands has been catered for (Including Arc G2 & G3) {in the X-Y plane only - not yet on Z} - since Z is mostly on one direction only, I do not see the point in doing it on Z.... gravity playing a factor as well.

My test so far has been successful with brilliant results (eliminiating backlash)

I have a few small bugs to work out, but if anyone is interested - please let me know - I need some sample G-Code to test ....

long time answer too… It seems you don't have to edit gcode, just make an STL including the support part, making it just below (let's say 0.1, 0.2 mm?) the 1st layer to be supported.

Thank you for you response, sorry this reply was so slow.
That's a very interesting post!
Its a real shame skeinforge requires custom code just to produce viable support material, unfortunately editing code to that level is well beyond me!
I think that post ultimately says that I should be using slic3r instead, lol.
Do you know of any other slicing software I could try out that is capable of producing .x3g files suitable for the CTC replicator?
I'm a big fan of how Cura slices and performs can I Produce .x3g files with any Cura hosts?

Hi all,

For the last year I have managed to get away without needing any support materials for my models up until now!
I have been working on a new design that will require some internal support so I decided to pump out some basic bridging models and try to get my support material dialled in.
I managed to get 90% of the settings just as I wanted, but no matter what I tweak I cant reduce the bond between the part and the support material. I have seen a few videos online where the host can just peel away the support with very little effort.
Mine are always stuck like crazy, I can make the support itself extremely light and east to remove but the bond layer between support and part are always very heavy.

I'm working with ReplicatorG and Skeinforge on the CTC dual (7.2 firmware I think) and printing with BQ PLA at the moment.
Here are my support settings:-
Support flow rate over operating flow rate (ratio) 0.5
Support gap over perimeter extrusion width (ratio) 1.5
I have also tried both the cross hatch and zigzag style supports with very little improvement.

Is the very top layer of the support considered an interface layer, should I be playing with the settings in the interface section of the raft tab?
Does anyone have any idea how I could reduce this bond?

The better solution is to decrease layers height: Skeinforge will "see" that space between walls can be filled, because width of extrusion will be thinner. You can make"decreasion" tests and see the results with Skeinlayer, without printing (Skeinlayer works with penultimate gcode files, to be generated in Export plugin).

Not too much recommended, you can also increase (decrease?) Fill / Infill Perimeter Overlap.

And, not recommended at all, and it is a supposition, you can play with Inset / Infill Width over Thickness.

I googled this, and found that many have this problem, but I did not see a solution that worked.

I did set the extra shells to 0, and no difference (that's the common "solution" to this)
I don't know why the slicer does not put any infill between the walls, there should be enough space, but it just leaves it empty!

The wall thickness for my part is 1.5 mm, if I make the part thicker it will put infill, and if I make it thinner the walls became close enough to join/stick together. But there is this "sweet spot" where the walls are far so they don't touch, but too narrow to put any infill even though by looking at it, there is enough space to put infill.

Did anyone find a solution that works?

Are there any settings In SF which will enable me to print what other slicers call a "brim"? I have a number of parts to print which have a relatively small surface area at Z=0 and would like to print what effectively would be a solid first layer which extends from the outside perimeter of my objects to something like 7 or 8mm in order to aid adhesion to the build plate.
I have attempted to add such a thing to the STL files by importing them into my CAD program and working from there but no success.

I can't remember what the term is called so I have a hard time googling it. Basically there was a setting to print a perimeter around the object that is not part of the object on first layer. So if I was printing a 10mmx10mmx10mm cube, it'll print maybe a 16mmx16mm square first, then print the cube inside it. How can I turn this on? I can't find it in ReplicatorG under Skeinforge. I'm printing without rafts.

On most of my prints recently, I've been seeing these fine "stragglers" as I like to call them--essentially they're small strings that are printed alongside the actual print. These can happen anywhere in the print (near beginning or end) on any feature (attached pic is on round objects, but I've had these before on flat walls as well). I would think this is a Skeinforge issue, however I don't see these defects show up in the 'review' session after Skeinforge has sliced a file. For reference, I'm using a Mendel90 and printing at .1mm resolution).

I haven't caught one of these being printed in action, but they appear as if they're made one small dab at a time per layer (you can see in the image that they're made in layers just like the rest of the print). They've always been a very fine strand, so easy to cut off, but still annoying.

Anyone have a similar issue and know a fix for it?

You can always use the Wayback Machine to look in the past, e.g. Mar 2014.
Simply put YOUR URL ('http://fabmetheus.crsndoo.com/wiki/index.php/Skeinforge') into the EDIT field at the top of the page, press "BROWSE HISTORY" and then pick a year, month and day (e.g. 11 Mar 2014).

When I first got my printer about 18 months ago I found the documentation at [fabmetheus.crsndoo.com] a great help.
I have not visited that site for a while (about 6 months) and now when I load the page I do not get anything in the large frame where I would expect to find the main menu of Skeinforge settings although if I click on the 'View Source' tab all of the text appears to be there. I have tried different computers and web browsers but have the same problem.
Has anybody else had, and solved, this problem?
