Print without PC - SD card printing...

Hello,

I am using RAMPS 1.4 with Arduini MEGA.

I want to print without PC. So what options are available as far as RAMPS 1.4 is considered.

I have connected diode D1 on RAMPS, but it doesn't work.

There are three pins on RAMPS VCC, 5V & PSU_ON...

Which of the above pins should I connect & from what.

Should I connect only VCC with 5v wire on ATX PSU? OR all of the three pins?

Yes but you will still need a method to control the Printer in the form of a LCD Display with SD Card reader remember that when connecting the D1 that it must go in the right way round ie the stripe on the Diode must be at the same end as the stripe on the printing on the board.

"Without D1 installed, or when the 12VIN is not connected, the Arduino gets its power from USB. If you want your kit powered without USB connected you need to solder in D1 OR connect VCC to your PSU."

The Arduino has a voltage regulator built in that supplies 5 volts to the VCC bus on the MEGA2560. This is the same as supplied to the majority of the RAMPS 1.4 board, with exception of the servo pins. They are not connected to anything except that pin that is marked 5V. If you use servos for any reason (most common is bed leveling), you will need to either connect an external 5 volt power supply to this pin or you can use a jumper on VCC<>5V to use the same 5 volts that the arduino 'produces'...

If you do not want an LCD, there is also just an SD card board that plugs directly into the RAMPS. Google SDRAMPS or check here. If you do not have an LCD, your host program must be capable of starting prints from the SD card. I think pronterface does this. I'm not sure of the others

Quote

I want to print without PC. So what options are available as far as RAMPS 1.4 is considered.

There are several options. Search reprap lcd smart controller on ebay for a bunch. These plug directly into the RAMPS 1.4 board and provide an interface and SD slot.

Quote

There are three pins on RAMPS VCC, 5V & PSU_ON...

VCC is connected to the 5 volt regulator on the Arduino
5V is connected to the 5 volt bus in the area on the ramps board labelled SERVOS

If you intend to use servos, you'll need to either supply 5 volts to the 5 volts pin, or you can place a jumper on VCC<>5V to use the 5 volts from the Arduino.

PS-ON is an output that is commonly used to switch an ATX power supply on/off

I use this output to switch a relay module for G-Code control of my non-ATX power supply.
