RAMPS 1.4 SB with quality components

Hello,

We all are tired of cheap RAMPS with burned connectors, overheated mosfets, and damaged electronics. I decided to make a solid RAMPS with quality power connectors, powerful mosfets, and protection diodes.

The power connectors are original molex rated at 15A.
The MOSFETs are toshiba, rated at 70A of constant usage, with a very low resistance. They keep a low temperate during hours of printing.
The protection diodes will protect the electronic from the stored inductance on the heat bed and extruder.

This board had a huge success in the spanish reprap community during the 2014, with hundreds of units already shipped.

I choosed tindie to share this product in more countries. Tindie is a great platform for indy and amateur projects.

All boards are manufactured here in Spain. They are cleaned and tested before shipping.

Please, feel free to send me your questions and comments.

1) yor have 16v caps for the stepper. wich means your board can't do 24 volt (wich a lot of us want)
2) you still have poly fuses. Please replace with real fuses eg mini car fuses like ramps-fd and 4pi use.

Another happy customer!
Very well made quality board, not heat from the MOSFETs when powering up the heatbed.
Thanks!

I just registered to post this. I stumbled across this thread when I was getting frustrated with my RAMPS boards that I had bought from various online retailers. Bad fuses, bad FETs, bad you-name-it. I needed to replaced one of my boards, and although converting over to newer electronics was tempting, I really just wanted a drop in replacement that was made from quality components at a decent price. After reading Javier's post, it sounded exactly like what I wanted.

After ordering a board, it took about 8 business days to get to the US from Spain, which is great. The board is very well made, with good components. It also is fully populated - all of the AUX and servo headers are soldered in, including a jumper for the 5v rail for the servos. Also the board came with jumpers for all the motor sockets - something I can't say for most of the RAMPS makers out there.

Took no time to swap out my busted board for the new one, and my delta is already back printing. So far, no FET problems, no fuse problems, and I like the blue LED's - they match the LCD screen on my printer

Bottom line: if you're in the market for a new RAMPS board, I'd highly suggest giving StaticBoards a look.

edit: forum ate the bottom half of my post

Quote
staticboards
The exact model for the mosfet is the TK72E12N1,S1X , not cheap, but I really love the low resistance.

IRLB8743PbF often is recommended as a better replacement for "standard" RAMPS boards. It looks like it has a 1/3 lower typical Rds(on) and a lower junction-to-ambient thermal resistance so if my numbers are correct, the IRLB8743PbF should run about 1/2 as hot over ambient temp at the load typical for a heated bed. It's also is available, at least here in the US, at less than 1/2 the cost in reasonable quantities. Either though are light years better than stock.

Quote
staticboards
The power connectors are original molex rated at 15A.

The original ramps called for a 15 amp connector. It's just the cheapskate manufacturers try to use cheaper components. Even at 15amps though you're right at the line and it doesn't allow for much wiggle room if you have a poor connection, oxidation, etc. I'd like to see one that is significantly higher than 15 amps which is what my board draws. Plus, you're still using a 11amp polyfuse.

Quote

The MOSFETs are toshiba, rated at 70A of constant usage, with a very low resistance. They keep a low temperate during hours of printing.

What toshiba mosfet are you using?

Quote

The protection diodes will protect the electronic from the stored inductance on the heat bed and extruder.

Shouldn't be necessary. All circuits have inductance, but with resistance heaters it's essentially zero. Fans would be the only thing the typical printer would have connected and the small inductive load is easily handled by the body diode inside most MOSFET packages (including the usual MOSFETs used with a RAMPS board)

Good looking board though.
