MKS Gen L and RepRap display + Z axis travel

Genuine MKS Gen L
BigTree Tech - Discount RepRap Smart Controler.
Marlin 1.1.9 BugFix release.

I was getting nothing on the display not even the back light so I've followed one of the "fixes" and reversed the Number 1 ribbon cable connector.

Now I have the blue back light and white rectangles where the text should be but sadly no text.

What's next? I've seen references to enabling a different display which one should I choose?

Will I damage anything if I work in order through the options Marlin offers?

Moving on, I have X, Y and Z moving but Z does not stop when the end stop is triggered manually although the LED on the end stop pcb does illuminate.

The Z end stop is plugged into Z min and defined as Z min in Marlin although it is inverted.

Any Advice much appreciated.

Thanks All. Aamcle

That is the current setting the reprap discount smart controller is the one defined.

I've read that there is a incompatibility between genuine MKS Gen L boards and some clone controllers and I unfortunately have a clone.

Any idea whats up with the Z axis?

Thanks Alan.
