Infill Problem

Hello,

I've some problem printing the test cube 10x10, the perimeters is ok, but the infill is ugly.
My configuration is prusa i3 Hot end E3d (Metal) nozzle 0,5 + marlin + slic3r + pronterface and ABS.

i've tried all kind of configuration (extruder multiplier/ e step calibration etc) but without any result, the final dimension of the print are ok but the top layer is higher than print !!!
here is some detail (if it could help):
printing temp 220
fill density 0.4
extruder multiplier 1
layer height 0.5

enclosed you will find some test ( I've one billion of cube…)
many thanks for any help and sorry for my english… :)
Thanks

Hi Alex,

I too have problems with top layers, bottom too. This thread helped somewhat. I made the following changes from default settings: Reworked my belts for "X" and "Y", used auto cooling, fill at 0.4, layer thickness 0.20, 1st layer height 150%, retraction at 3, Extrusion width at 0.4, angle for infill at 0, infill top and bottom concentric. Still have to try the threshold area adjutment, that is nex time.

I use PLA, 1.75mm, and a 0.35 nozzle with temp from 185C - 190C.

Results were pretty good, fairly good bottom and a great top. Bottom seems real critical in "Z" distance between head and bed. Still have blobs/stringing so need more work on Retraction.

Need to find solution to a weak few layers that keep recurring about 1/8" up from bed on all my prints. I use rectilinear infill for fill at 40%.

In any event your thread topic has helped me improve. There are a lot of subtle adjustments...

Hi Bob,

1st of all I've changed a parameter in slic3r:
reduce the Solid infill threshold area on infill form: I put 1 mm2 / default is 70 mm2 so all the pieces under that value will be filled and my printer cannot fill more than 4/5 layers in a row.

2. reduced a little bit the temperature (215)

3. and reduced the layer height to 2 mm for raw thing and 0,8 for finest…

let me know the result.
So, what exactly did you end up doing to get the improvement shown?

You can't print 0.5 layer height with a 0.5 nozzle. Layer height should be Max 80% of nozzle size.
I normally print 0.25 layer with 0.5 nozzle. Can do 0.35 to, but i never go over that.

So try with a layer height of some 0.2-0.35 :-)
