Using OpenSCAD, so projects can easily have STLs made of them and they will be posted to various project sharing sites (probably including Thingiverse since it seems to be the only one with customizer support --- if there are others I'd be glad to know of them), and there is a box design in the wings which uses 3D printing to create a central part which has a shape which is not readily made on a 3-axis machine.
Thank you for your consideration and time.

Hello all,
our name is Icy-Bear.

Becaus we are annoyed by the bad thermal characteristics of most hotends, we started developing our own Prodoct!
Our new ColdEnd uses the principle of induction in order to heat the nozzle.
By doing so, we're able to get some impressive numbers: 200 °C rise in just under 20 seconds.

Advantages:

Extremely fast heat-up process

Precise temperature control

Does not need any active or passive cooling [No spinning fans required]

Max. temperature ~300 °C

Short cool-down events

In order to develop this system further, and make it available for everyone as cheap as any other hotend,
we need YOUR HELP!
Our campaign is now live on Indiegogo: indiegogo.com/at/coldend

Please share our campaign and support it on Indiegogo via the link above!

We're extremely excited to get your opinion on this project!

Phase 1 - RepRap 3D printer on Kickstarter

Phase 1 was created to be the middle ground for performance and price.

Features:

Genuine e3d hotend

200x200x200mm build volume

Automatic Bed leveling

LCD screen with SD card reader

Aluminum heated bed

Mains wiring cover with power switch (pre-assembled)

Only $375

I launched the kickstarter on October 4th eager to show off my project to the world. I knew I had to fix some issues with the printer, but I took pictures of its first prints and put it online. I was quickly met with feedback and criticism, and it was warranted. The printer looked cheap and printed poorly, I had rushed it onto kickstarter without even thinking. After hearing the feedback, I tried my hardest to make a better version of the printer that would actually be high quality. I want to deliver a product that truly lives up to my goal of what I would have wanted in a 3D printer kit. With this new design I believe that the major problems of Z-wobble stability, and cooling were addressed and I know I will still receive great feedback to improve upon again. We only have about 3 days left, and the chances of success are slim. We only need 8 printers sold to reach our goal and need your support. Help Phase 1 become a reality!
Back us now on Kickstarter!
60hrs left!
* If you are wondering why there are no new print pictures, very unfortunate, water was spilled on the power supply and somehow fried the Ramps, no new board could come before the campaign ends

$145 SparkMaker - The Most Affordable SLA 3D Printer ? (2 replies)

Wondering why no one wants to discuss the [www.kickstarter.com]

I am backing it because I finally have come up with a concept to turn the SparkMaker into a SMD multilayer PCB maker. And for this i would happily invest $200 and even a resolution of 0.2mm = 200 microns would be all that is needed for that outstanding great use case. With the proper resin even flexible circuits should be possible. The small build size would be absolutely okay and as SLA printers do a complete layer within a few seconds, you could really produce a PCB under 5 minutes.

The campaign had a good start but then the creators were so nice to stage a 12 hours live print with multiple objects printed. Some prints did not show many details because creator indeed seemed to be very nervous and choose to over-cure in order to not take any risks of prints failing.

That event killed most of the momentum. It is slowly recovering now but these young Chinese creators do not really understand how important it is to connect to their backer community.

We mostly are only FDM experts, so i dream that some SLA experts give a comment here.

This little $145 printer is somehow a kind of its own. It for now only has a 480 x 854 lcd display whereas most of the $500+ printer come with 1440p.
480p only yields a resolution of no less than 120 microns, but to my knowledge there is no printer in between $145 and $500+

So it does not really makes sense to compare the SparkMaker to any existing SLA printer ?
Question rather is: Can this printer indeed be useful for beginners ?

It is not impossible to reach the $1M stretch goal to get a better lcd which would increase the resolution to 50-80 microns. 720p or 1080p ?

But the campaign is now having hard times because no-one really knows what to think of the printer.

And the young creators are so happy that they have already hit the funding goal 1700% that they are fully busy preparing for production.
Kickstarter is not really for us backers but for the creators. So we can NOT rule how they should treat us. They have their dream and live it.

So what do some SLA experts say ? Would a 150 microns SLA printer to print little figurines still be worth $205 (inkl. worldwide shipping)

Ideas welcome :-)

Quote

CORE2 contains popular interfaces for robotic projects, so you can build different robots easily without dozens of shields. Built-in DC motor ports allows you to directly connect up to four motors and process signals from their quadrature encoders in hardware - you don’t waste a CPU processing cycles, because a dedicated timer, one for each encoder, cares to not miss any single “tick”. Powerful libraries for CORE2 use all peripherals and CPU power in efficient way, thanks to a real-time operating system, DMA channels, interrupts - but everything is hidden behind an easy to use API. Interfaces for six servos and an on-board DC/DC converter allows you to select a voltage level for each servo. Lots of GPIOs, communication interfaces, ADC channels, and interrupt pins allow you to connect literally any sensor you can find, especially since CORE2 works with Arduino libraries, as you will see later.

I don't have any connection to this project, but it would a great development platform for a 3D printer if you could add some stepper drivers to it.

Hey Reprap community,

I need your help!
As you might have read on 3ders.org or on the Reprap wiki, I have launched a Kickstarter for an open-hardware transparent polygon scanner.
Laser scanning, the process of deflecting a laser beam in a controlled manner, plays an important role in 3D printing, laser engraving, and many other modern technologies. Laser-equipped 3D printers could bring a huge benefit to the overall Reprap project; photo-polymerization, sintering etc. You can even try to create a machine which you can use to fabricate printed circuit boards.
High-end laser scanners are expensive as you need an expensive f-theta lens. In the technology, I propose this lens it not needed. If successful, the kit will be released as open-hardware.
I think open-hardware is a cool business model and the Reprap project would actually benefit from open-hardware for profit companies. A technical presentation is on the kickstarter page.

You can help, in the following way:
* buy the kit or a component via Kickstarter
* create prior art in the field of transparent polygon scanners; please do not edit the articles I wrote unless you know what you are doing
You can also create a separate article, but try to brain storm as much potential applications with transparent polygon scanners as possible. This will block closed source companies and benefit the Reprap project.
* i need engineers;
Ideally; you are experienced in 3D printing, programming and know how to design PCBs. You need to have a cofounder mentality and be willing to work in the region of Rotterdam (Netherlands).
If you know such a person; let me know! Emails are welcom at info@hexastorm.com
* i need promotion
like it on twitter; empower the masses --> i am all alone

I really think that with a transparent polygon scanner, Reprap machines could compete with the leading machines in the PCB or photo-polymer market..

So help me out!!

Hi all and thanks for that space and your time.

Few months ago i had try to open a fablab in my city, but... is not so easy to do here....

Hi, my name is Francesco, i come from Italy, as said above i had try to open a fablab in my city (Crema -CR-), but when i had that idea i just think to the pure cost of the project.... unfortunately here is not so easy.

I discuss a lot with my friends and i had an idea, the below text was tranlated by M4D, a new friend from thingiverse, i already open a topic like that to check the availability of that idea and a lot of people just.... give me an help.

I hope here, will be the same. The text show the idea and the problem that i met while trying to open my fablab.

**************************************************************************************************************************
Hi Elstak, Here's the best i can do with the translation for you, i found a little of it extremely difficult to understand especially when it came to the costings and have done what i can to make it as true to your story as possible, I hope this helps you get a good response, i have left some parts in your own words as they are easy to read and understand as they are, let me know if there's anything i can change for you.

"Hello everyone, I've been trying to open a FabLab in my city for a long time, a while ago I was talking to a friend about how I could go about funding the opening of a FabLab ......

While searching for a information on how to go about setting up a FabLab i wrote to lots of FabLabs around the world and was rather annoyed due to the fact in most countries they not only got support financially but also given a purpose, they start with a much more ’moderate investment’ than is being provided here in Italy.
To rent a space here is going to cost a year in advance, we’re talking at least €800-€1000 per month + IVA (VAT), which works out around €14,000. To have the minimum equipment to make a FABLAB viable as a business (it needs to be self sufficient once opened) around €30,000, even without going too big to start with I’m going to need a Laser Cutter, that cuts up to 5mm thick aluminium; 3-4 printers that cannot be the hypercube if i have to carry with engineering firms and companies for prototyping ( this is where the majority of money is made in a FabLab); workbenches and tools (despite a contact in Beta, a workstation fit for purpose is upwards of around €1,500), All such costs are in addition to those of the Italian bureaucracy between a tax and the other (in Italy you pay before opening a business) around €10,000.
Now a small detail on prices, for the same purchase in most countries is cheaper than here in Italy, printers, cutters, lathes, milling machines, CNC, everything costs less elsewhere… even in America you get most things cheaper .... So not only the €20,000 that i had not saved was not enough, but even after i sold my motorcycle (sigh!) €30,000 that i will have will be enough.

One of the ideas that had been discussed was, indeed, a cookbook recipes made with the maker of RepRap, Thingiverse and so on ... Idea initially abandoned because long to manage, were opened the topic on many international forums (because the aim is to put recipes from around the world) contact youtuber some not too well known (some do pay for a message in a video .... :() etc ..

But I must make the best of a bad situation otherwise the project can not exist, at least not with the Community spirit and nonprofit. Otherwise, at that point, it becomes a store and I want to open another thing.

So I'd love to, as requested on Thingiverse, if you shared with me your favorite recipe, as well as your mother will always did ... raw recipe, handwritten (no online recipes ... you lose the spirit of the book) ingredients and notes on preparing ... as is ... I apologize in advance to those who have already had to say goodbye to your own mother, to which I give a hug."

Now, i'm just asking for a recipe... i hope will be not too much for you.
Thanks guy and good DIY.

Hi all, I make new firmware based on repetier firmware named Wangsamas firmware. It is an open source operating system to run robotic arm as in video here [youtu.be]

It is not just for plotter, you can use it for CNC, laser and 3D printer.
It is not just for robot arm too, you can use it for cartesian and delta robots.
You can download if for free at [github.com]
And you are free to modify it for other purposes as factory automation.

There are support and other needed informations provided in [www.wangsamas.com] website.
And I also make video tutorials to learn about 3D printing at youtube channel as in this link [www.youtube.com]

They are Indonesian language tutorial that I made right now, and I have plan to make english version too in the future.

I need your support to develop the firmware further and make more videos faster with better quality.
Wangsamas firmware and the videos created with good purpose for better life of the people.
Your financial support really means a lot for me. It also means you are contributing for the technology, the impact of technology and the people who use it.
Who knows someday someone make something that useful for you and your family because of your contribution today.

I'm the project-owner for this Kickstarter campaign.

I made a sensor that can detect pretty much any kind of filament stoppage. If your printer can take an endstop filament runout sensor, then it can use this product as a drop-in replacement.

I've tested this product on a Ramps 1.4 with Marlin 1.1.x. I've also tested it on OctoPrint with the filament sensor plugin.

I haven't directly tested it, but it should also work well with Repetier firmware (quadrature output).

This isn't a take-it-or-leave-it campaign; if you see a function you'd like but don't see, then request it and I'll try my best to incorporate it.

If you have any questions, submit and I'll answer as fast as I can!

Thanks!

I have been testing it for quite a while and with big success.
There's ofcourse a learning curve changing from marlin to smoothieware but when you get to know the firmware then its quite simple to continue with it.
Its a great arduino alternative for ramps, and if i have to use ramps on other projects i would definitely choose this alternative again.

The easy way to upgrade your ramps system to 32bit.

You unplug the old mega and plug in this new board (presuming it fits in your enclosure) and your done (hardware wise)

This board runs smoothieware, no it will not run Marlin or Repetier or other 8 bit firmwares.

Disclaimer: I’m not associated with this kickstarter in anyway, I just think its a very good idea and well worth supporting.
