            <title>Unlevel print head (2 replies)</title>

            <description><![CDATA[ I have been making improvements to an old Fisher I have access to. The only thing left to sort out is the print head is not level. I would estimate it is 5 degrees tilted towards the Y tower.<br />
<br />
Because of the calibration routines, I can only think that the head itself must no longer be flat, so I will try printing a new one.<br />
<br />
On a delta, is there any other way the head could be unlevel? The rods themselves are laser cut so hard to imagine they are out of tolerance, and presumably any differences in them and the carriages would be calibrated out anyway?<br />
I have been through and adjusted all the configuration variables for endstops, home position, etc and always run the mesh grid compensation and delta calibration.<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ Hi again,<br />
<br />
Another thing I'd like to do with the Fisher Delta is print with PETG.<br />
<br />
I have had a brief try and it went okay, but it didn't completely adhere to the bed at 85degC and warped as a result, so I will try 90degC next.<br />
But the two bad things that happened:<br />
1. The head ducts melted<br />
2. The nozzle got completely blocked<br />
<br />
I think this was because I directed a small fan heater at the head to try to increase the ambient temperature so the whole thing overheated.<br />
<br />
The things I'm going to try:<br />
* Move the heater a bit further away<br />
* 90degC bed temperature<br />
* Leave the head ducts off<br />
* Dry the filament<br />
<br />
Does anyone else have experience of printing PETG on a Fisher Delta and have any advice?<br />
Do you think I have any chance with my approach and without a heated chamber?<br />

First post here and bit of a newb!<br />
I have access to an ageing Fisher Delta and the acrylic head connecting rod ends are warping quite badly, so much that they are becoming loose on the ball caps.<br />
<br />
I was wondering if anyone knew/had tried replacing them with metal rods with ball joints? They will obviously be much more robust, accurate and longer lasting.<br />
Something like this with some M4 threaded rod:<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ Hi All, <br />
Can someone give me a step-by-step, absolute novice's guide to turning on/connecting my Fisher Delta to my laptop? I'm working with a macbook pro. <br />

I inherited the machine from a friend of my parents. I know the machine is functional as I was given a full demo when I picked it up, but since getting it home I cannot make any sort of link to my laptop, and I can't actually tell if the machine has turned on (I was so excited when I got it that I forgot to listen out for what 'on' sounds like). The fan doesn't turn on and the nozzle doesnt heat up. The power pack is registering power, but am I missing something as simple as a switch on the machine itself? <br />
<br />
I would be so, so appreciative if anybody could walk me through in absolute baby steps. I took a lot of notes on everything that happened after start up, but the start up in the demo was so quick and smooth that it didnt seem more complex than connecting all the wires (power, internet, connection to laptop) and opening up reprapfisher. My laptop cannot locate the machine and as I say, I dont think it's even turned on. <br />

            <description><![CDATA[ Hello.  New to 3D printing and i have been given a fisher delta 1.<br />
<br />
I have managed to commission it ok and can print the robot ok.<br />
<br />
I have generally been able to print things ok with a nice finish but im finding that during the print my extruder motor will click occasionally.<br />
<br />
What would be the first thing to try?  I don't want to just try things randomly if there is a good place to start.<br />
<br />
Increase print temp?  Reduce print speed?  Could the tension be too high on the extruder idler?<br />
<br />
I don't seem to get blockages during a print although i have had a lot of problems with the hot end where the PLA gets a buldge in it before the nozzle.  My bowden tube is butted up against the nozzle.  Its the early one where you screw the bowden tube into it and drill it out manually.  No problems with initially feeding the PLA through to the nozzle.<br />
<br />
I have ordered a different PLA just in case it is of poor quality but it does seem consistently 1.75mm.<br />
<br />
Hot end fan is running during print<br />
<br />
All standard settings apart from homing and bed levelling stuff.<br />
<br />
PLA at 200C.  Glass unheated bed.<br />
<br />

I've just built my Fisher and am running through commissioning. I have gone through all the steps up until Bed Probing successfully. <br />
I can move the head in each direction and the correct distances using the web interface.<br />
But, each time I try and execute Auto Delta Compensation, the head crashes into the Z Tower (to the left of the Duet Ethernet/ Power sockets).<br />
The steppers keep driving until I can get to the Emergency Stop - by which time some of the rods have disconnected.<br />
<br />
Can anyone point me in the right direction?<br />

Long time I've been reading silently in this forum, but now I have a problem I can't fix myself.<br />
Trying to use my whole printbed doesn't seem to be as easy for me. Printing small object like benchy seems fine, but when using the whole bed it gets messy.<br />

I am happy most of the time with the acrylic rods but on a few occasions it came off and the machine just kept smashing its head around<br />
So can anyone tell me or show me somewere i could get a set preferably made or any advice and tips on how to install them.<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ I'm thinking of adding one of dc42's ir probe boards to my (modified) fisher beta, however mounting it under the effector will be a problem as the Z distance from the base of the effector to the tip of the nozzle is only 17mm and the board is ~18mm high and needs an extra 1mm of clearance.<br />
<br />
As I see it I have 3 options to mount it-<br />
1, mount it to the side of the effector<br />
2, shim the hot end mount to bring the nozzle 2mm lower.<br />
3, redesign the effector with a recess in the base to mount the board higher.<br />
<br />
I've already designed the mount to attach it to the side but it will put the ir sensor 31mm horizontally away from the nozzle, is this going to be to far for the leveling to compensate for?<br />
<br />
Number 2 I thought might work by putting an extra nut or spacer on the bolts that secure the heatsink, would need slightly longer bolts, might make it wobbly and it feels a bit like a bodge.<br />
<br />
The right way is probably number 3 but it's a lot more involved so I'm leaning towards trying out the mounting it to the side of the effector as long as it's not going to be pointless due to the large offset from the nozzle.<br />
<br />
Any thoughts before I pull the trigger on buying the board?]]></description>

I've built a fisher kit from scratch. I have updated the firmware to 1.23 from the reprap ltd GitHub site and am able to connect ok. I have been running through the commissioning page and the motors are setup and working in the correct direction and the end stops trigger successfully on testing.<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ New to this so have just set my Fisher to work. <br />

I only needed to change the H4 to H14 to get the z probing to work.<br />
<br />
Printed the robot and the cube and noted that in both cases on completion of the print the print head just lifts up clear of the part.<br />
<br />
For my next test I got slic3r to slice the endstop holder for a prusa. when printing finished the head ran to its limit s then went down until it impacted the printed part, I think this  is because Slic3r put an G28 X0 in the end of the GCode. I notice that a "normal" home command on the fisher does the same limit switch then return to just above the printed part.<br />

Am i correct in thinking I can edit the homing command out of my code and just <br />
<br />
M107 turn fan off<br />
G91  relative positioning<br />
G1 Z40 F4000 feed Z axis 40mm up (clear the object)<br />
G90 absoloute positioning<br />
G1 X0 Y0 centre the head<br />
T99 select 99.<br />

If I put that as custom end code will it override the homing and crashing code.<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ After breaking my first lasercut arms for the fisher and seeing the threads on ball ends and mag balls. I have a lot of experience with ball ends from model cars and am curious as to what people call sloppy, are there any quantitative values for acceptable or sloppy. <br />
Many people seem to have gone down the carbon tube and ball end route. so my question is pultruded or wrapped. My idea at the moment is to use tubes with setscrews in the balljoint glued into the tube. Would the sloppiness, be addressed by having springs between the parallel rods (a light spring acting on or near to the setscrew to minimize bending effect on the carbon tube).  Also I have the option to use ball ends which use m4 threads, would increasing to 6mm tube rather than 5mm give any benefit in reducing flex in  the rods.]]></description>

New to this, I have built and commisioned a Reprap Fisher with Duet 0.6 electronics, I think I originally wired the fan reverse polarity, after correcting the wires still doesn't work. Anybody have any idea if just the fan or the duet board will have blown too.<br />

When i set the fan from the web interface the Fan led comes on, is this actually the fan i should be looking at. Is it work putting a scope on the output from the duet, I assume if it is PWM I should see a 19v square wave with mark space ratio changing as I increase setting on web.<br />
<br />
Will operating the mosfet in open circuit damage it.<br />
<br />

I'm using the same slicing software I've always used and not put on any updated software on the printer. <br />

            <description><![CDATA[ i'm doing a series on mechanical rigidity of 3D printing frames, and came to the conclusion that the Fisher's use of panels is absolutely superb.  The typical Kossel is easily susceptible to rotation and shearing, but the addition of those three panels to the Fisher almost *completely* eliminates that.  the analysis page is here: [<a href="http://reprap.org/wiki/Mechanical_Rigidity/Fisher" target="_blank"  rel="nofollow">reprap.org</a>]<br />

There is only one potential flaw, and it's this: the top of the open frame hole in each panel face needs bracing, but it can only really be done on the outside as the z-axis mechanisms would otherwise be interfered with.  Horizontal Extrusion (or even L-Plate) needs to go on the outside just over the top of each of the open holes in each face, attached in three places each, with each bracing then joined (externally and rigidly) to each other but leaving a gap sufficiently large that each Z-axis travel mechanism can still go through it without interference.  Actually... a single flat piece of acrylic could equally well do the job, a quick sketch is attached.  Attachment points are shown in green.<br />

Could anyone who has a Fisher say if the panels are actually loose or not?  I suspect that they are.  Do they wobble about at all (outwards or inwards), and also, what happens if you try to push the top of the Fisher side-to-side when the base is firmly attached to the ground?  I would expect the panels to bow and flex (and the top to move about as a result), but it would be nice to have that confirmed.<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ The new belts are now in, the little Fisher is back to perfect prints!<br />

I've noticed that I'm having to print higher temps now. I run "0" in the slicer, then manually set the temp as required, it was 210, when I started, I'm now running 245/250! <br />
<br />
I've had a quick look, it appears to be 19v and 60W, can't find anything!<br />
<br />
Any advice, please.<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ I have been struggling with my Fisher Delta 3D printer for weeks trying to get consistent results - bought the heated bed, replaced the numerous broken acrylic arms with carbon fibre arms (which turned out in the end to be caused by a dodgy Z limit connection on the controller) and even switched to PETG because 'it is known to stick to anything and itself very well' (but not printed on my printer!)<br />
<br />
As the limited success I have had still looks to offer some potential I am considering abandoning this printer and trying a Prusa I3 - also because I find the 150mm round print bed on the Fisher limited in size (and printing close to the edge of the bed causes even more problems with sticking!)<br />
<br />
Is there anything else I can try before going down this route? The prints that are successful look pretty good, but I normally have to print 3-4 to get one good one - or is this the same experience for everyone else?<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ I have just built the printer and everything is fine until I try to calibrate the bed position. The instructions say that after the Home All process the head should stop 4mm above the bed, but it is more like15mm.  When I try a z-probe calibration the head moves around and lowers until it should contact the bed but stops just a millimetre above it, then moves onto the next point. The result is a failed calibration: "Error: Z probe was not triggered during probing move".<br />

            <description><![CDATA[ I've been printing without too much trouble for a few months, however, I'm now having all sorts of layer problems.<br />
<br />
I can get so far, then the layer will shift across 2 or 3 mm, but I'm sure there is no belt slipping, as its still perfectly parallel. The other problem is a mystery 2 or 3mm jump between layers.<br />
<br />
This is not a silc3r problem, as I've tried to print previous successful prints with no joy!<br />
<br />
I'm not sure where to start?<br />
