MendelMax / Rostock Experement Using OpenBeam Hi there, I recently bought some OpenBeam aluminium extrusions from Terence at [url=http://www.openbeamusa.com]Openbeamusa.com[/url]. Openbeam started as a Kickstarter project with the aim of making aluminium extrusions that take normal M3 nuts instead of the hugely expensive t-nut system that most extrusions use these days. (15x15mm anodized aluminium extrusion, made in the USA) Would anyone be interested in making a MendelMax / Rostock machine with these extrusions. What can I offer: [list] [*] I can provide Openbeam @ $15/Meter. (Terence asked me to be the local distributor) [*] I can provide a bag of M3 nuts and bolts at my cost. Cheap as chips!!! [*] I will cut the extrusions to length for you. [*] I can 3d Print all the modified parts for you in ABS/PLA at my cost. (You can even pick the colour) [*] I can provide a naked Ramps 1.4 PCB. (Just the PCB) [*] I can ship the items in NZ for a reasonable price. [*] The rest of the parts you will have to provide yourself. [/list] What would I like in return: [list] [*] I would like the build to be properly documented so more people can take advantage of OpenBeam. [*] Lots of photo's needs to be taken... :) [*] I will need CAD help with the design of the printed parts [/list] I am a huge fan of OpenBeam and would like to see the prices come down in NZ/AU. I made a dummy panel here: [www.thingiverse.com] to help figure out where it is going to be mounted.
Another builder here is building an oversize OB1.4 so that might be interesting to see how sturdy the Open Beam is at larger lengths, video here: [www.youtube.com]

I have been using an extruder I designed with a built-in j-head clamp and was printed in PLA without any problems so it should be fine. Worst case is I have to print this part in ABS but I'm not eager to do that.

Simon you do have an eye for beauty!!!





Start with just the plastics I would say. As you add more features update the design. The people that buy the first designs can always print the upgrade parts them self's or modify it to work with there needs.

That way you will also get some funds in for more R&D.
