Hi everyone.
I started acumulating parts to build the Prusa Mendel about when the design first came out. I didn't have spare cash to buy everything at once. I'm wanting to finally get the final parts, including the main plastic parts. The original idea was that someone from the community prints them for free, and gives them to the next person to do the same for the next etc. Is this still what happens? I've been away from the community for a while.

Hi everyone

Taking a chance here to try avoid a 2-month wait from AliExpress... My Prusa i3 which I was getting out of mothballs had power surge of some description which fried the Mega2560 and the stepper motor drivers.

I have sourced a replacement Mega and I believe the RAMPS board is fine because my end stops still work and I can see them open/closed with the M119 command in RepetierHost. However the A4988s are toast. I had one spare which I switched in for a couple of them and the axis would move when I sent commands with the spare plugged in, but otherwise nothing

So now I am on the lookout for 4x A4988s to get my machine up and running again. Does anyone have some lying around in a spare parts bin to help out? Happy to reimburse at fair rates. I am based in Christchurch so I can also do pickup if someone local can help. Also may need to replace my temperature sensors as they are giving nonsensical numbers.

Cheers

To that end I am looking for acquire older 3d printer motherboards that you may have upgraded away from and no longer desire.
The board doesn't even need to be fully working (I can replace parts) as long as board it self is ok and isn't now a charcoal brick)

I have what’s is essentially some variation of a pursa 2 with a menzi 2.0 board that’s damaged. I want to replace it with ramps. The printer also has an external part to boost the voltage.

How difficult is this process? I’ve done a bit of soldering but I’m nothing too intricate. Does ramps calibrate the motors? I know a little bit of programming but not much.

A seperate problem is my heat bed has stopped working and my printer refuses to start unless the heat bed is up to temperature.

NZ Supplier for XTC-3D (Brush on coating for PLA, ABS ) (no replies)

A supplier for sourcing XTC-3D - A product for smoothing and finishing 3D printed parts.

XTC-3D doesn't melt plastics. Two liquids are mixed together and brushed onto 3D prints. Coating self levels and wets out uniformly without leaving brush strokes.
Working time is 10 minutes and cure time is about 4 hours (depending on mass and temperature).
XTC-3D cures to a hard, impact resistant coating that can be sanded, primed and painted.

Can be applied to both SLA and SLS prints. It works with PLA, ABS, Laywoo, Powder printed parts and other rigid media. It also can be used to coat EPS, EPDM and urethane foam as well as wood, plaster, fabric, cardboard and paper.

Coverage - A very small amount of XTC-3D is needed to coat an average size print. 1 oz /28.3 grams of mixed material will cover 101 square inches/651 square cm applied at 1/64" (0.4cm) thickness.

Hello to those in this part of the globe. I have a few questions on printing in this part of the world.
What is the best way to get started printing with what one has to hand? Re: Forum
Like I have said I have access to the electronics to make boards with through board components. What I need help with is
the hardware side of the printer. What options do I have in the way of the linear slides? I know I can use drawer slides but if I can avoid
spending on those(as they will be used for a very short time till I can upgrade(Probably to PLA bushings)) I will.
Any other recommendations for hurdles I may come across trying to get started in this corner of the world(customs taking a interest and delaying parcels, tax and other fun games)?

Newbie would appreciate any advice,I have a new Prusa Steel (Zonestar) printer kit that I built myself.
Carried out initial set up as per instructions no problems. I have made no changes to the program on the unit.
Switched off while I loaded a gcode test file to build a small pillar onto the SD card.
Turned the printer back on LCD is lighting up showing a blank blue screen. The filament cooling fan started up as soon as I switched the printer on and kept running until I switched the machine off.
I pressed the menu button and two rows of greyish rectangles appeared on the screen pulsing every second.
Switched off and tried again with the same results.
Sent email to Zonestar they suggested this website for help.
Hope I'm in the right area for help on this subject.

Thanks

I know t-nuts are available from overseas suppliers, but I'm keen to avoid the delay and the expense by purchasing something locally in NZ. Bonus points if they're Wellington based!

Hi All

I built a Prusa i3 box-frame printer from parts last christmas, but unfortunately have never fully been able to utilise it. It has always run well from the get go, and I only had to do a rough calibration to get decent prints. Printed off a few things without any hassle at all
With a few new things brewing on the horizon, I think its time to let it go to a good home. I am based in Wellington, haven't investigated shipping. Thought I would ask on here before putting on Trademe.

Some fine tuning may be required on Z- axis to bring it square to the Y-axis, and I have yet to perfect the correct start-up extrusion rate to get the filament flowing smoothly for the start of small prints. Other than that, it runs like a dream. Looking for cost price ($600) or best offer.

Specs: Prusa i3 Rework variant, 3mm

- 16mm ply box-frame
- M10 threaded rod X/Y axis
- official J-head Mk V-BV, 3mm filament, 0.4mm orifice.
- GT2 pulley for printbed.
- near- full sapphire blue PLA roll from DiamondAge (kept in plastic for moisture control.

also comes with spare parts as pictured:
- 200x200mm glass bed
- 2x mechanical endstops
- kapton tape
- painters tape
- A4988 stepper
- 8x LM8UU linear bearings
- Sprung bolt for use in gregstruder
- 5x RBG wire connectors (for endstops etc)

Let me know if you are interested, or know someone who is. Cheers

Prusa i3 bed levelling issue :S (no replies)

Hello!, I recently ran into an issue where my printer doesn't want to print on the bed, but print about 2-3mm above it.

Well to go into more detail, I was have installed a auto bed inductive sensor and before each print it (after heating up bed and hot-end) would normally run the G28 command . After that finished it would end up in the sensor in the middle of the bed, as it should. Then it runs the G29 command and it probes all four corners and before it starts printing it raises about 2-3mm and starts extruding the plastic in mid air. I thought it was an error in in marling firmware so I checked my code in the "config.h" file in marlin and nothing seems out of place in the auto-bed levelling section. so I don't know why this is happening. I tried to find the source to the problem but no luck... :S

Funny thing is that this started randomly as I usually print using an SD card.
Any help would be much appreciated :) .
Thanks :)
