The Printrbot guys have reached $540,7004.00 !!! Thats just staggering, 1283 customers and still counting, every time I refresh the page the number goes up.

That's just got to make you take a long hard look at this technology, astounding success.

Who's going to be the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates of this industry... or will it be controlled by the giants... time will tell.

I don't charge GST in NZ as I'm not registered for it, if I did it would be 15%

Hey, I own lulz.

The tax depends on where you are. If you are outside of Colorado, USA, the tax is 0% (zero). In Colorado, add 2.9%. In Larimer county, add 0.8%. And if you are in our town, Loveland, Colorado, add another 3.0%. We actually get a decent number of reprappers coming by the shop from around the area. smiling smiley

Edit: There may be import/customs taxes due for buyers outside of the USA. This varies from country to country.

I'll also point out that we have been doing 3-day auctions on ebay continuously since mid-October of our used machines (the ones we used to make parts for the subsequent batch of printers). These machines are in 100% working order, have the firmware calibrated, and are ready to print. The winning auction price range has been between $635 and $960. You can see our profile here, which links to the current auction, which we will continue to do:

It's not that difficult but for some opening up their computer is not something they know how to do. (For me, I always assemble my own computers so it isn't an issue.) Also it laptops don't have that option. A ExpressCard or PCI Express Mini Card may be an option although you'd have to make sure you use PCI express and not USB (I presume they exist but don't know). Also for some commercial computers, expansion options may be more complicated or limited. (Because people prefer USB and serial ports are probably more commonly used then parallel ports, I'm guessing finding a USB to serial device is also easier then a PCI express to parallel, in fact I didn't find any at DealExtreme although I'm sure eBay must have some.)

You're right if you do have an appropriate PC and can't work out how do this, DIYing your own RepRap may not be the best idea but I guess each person has their own strengths.

Don't get me wrong, the SeeMeCNC is definitely interesting, from a price POV if anything. And of course you can use different electronics anyway. And if you do go down the 'direct control via parallel port' route, it opens up some interesting possibilities (but also risks). But I think the need for a non USB based parallel port is going to be a deal breaker for some. However the diversity is a good thing.

In any case, thanks greatly for the list Anja.
