[Solved] What does this sprinter pre setup warning mean?
December 24, 2011 03:03AM
I'm part way thru a Prusa Mendel build inc arduino128/RAMPS 1.4, no heated bed.
I have C/C++ programming experience.

I'm at the software configuration stage and after looking at various postings thought I'd go with
what looks like the easiest to install:

Sprinter Firmware
PronterFace / SFACT Software

But the sprinter readme file

Sprinter readme file

has a section saying:

"WARNING: This version (April 19th, 2011) fixes a bug that caused speeds to be lower than what
set in GCODE. So before attempting any print, you will have to check all
your axis max speed, including the extruder retract speed. Not following
this guidelines can seriously damage your printer."

but then doesnt say
'in order to check all your axis max speeds you need to....'

So what am I supposed to do?

I've picked sprinter over teacup because a posting said 'it just works'. Sounds good for me as a beginner as a starting setup , but maybe teacup would be better if it doesnt have pitfalls like the above? Just pondering out loud...

Thanks in advance for any help

Mike

That's a warning for people who have set their rates to compensate for the bug that was slowing the machine down. These people, running the same Gcode as before, may damage the printer. Not that it should do any damage, steppers won't tear themselves apart if you ask them to go to fast, they just don't work.

There are max settings on line 90 of configuration.h, but your slicer shouldn't be generating Gcode that runs the machine too fast unless you've previously configured it to.

Thanks Andrew. Makes sense now.
