Building a Prusa Mendel
I have had the arduino / ramps set up working ok on COM 6 , pronterface communicating with the steppers ok.
Sprinter firmware loaded , no lights on the arduino board (if I remember right).
I needed to adjust the firmware.
I happened to notice that the usb cable was still attached to the arduino (the 12V up to 20A supply was not conncted)..
To be on the safe side I pulled the usb-arduino cable out at the arduino end , nothing unusual happening at the time (eg no pc to arduino uploads)
There was one 'beep like' sound from windows xp (same you get say if a USB printer connector gets plugged in).
So far it seemed nothing to worry about.
However COM6 has now vanished in the OS. When I try to manually add it in windows xp, it just creates a non working
COM7. Tried changing the cable , no difference. Tried a usb drive in the PC com ports , that works ok, so PC hardware
looks ok.
No lights on arduino or ramps board.
(One idea: there's a reset key on the arduino, blocked by the ramps board. I can try separating the arduino ramps - bent pins anyone? & use that reset key).
Editted extra note: if I hook the arduino to the 12V 20A power supply, theres still no lights on the ramps board.
Edited extra note: OK I split the ramps / arduino & now have COM6 back. The arduino looks ok, in that I have the blink
test working. Will investigate further...
Ok I solved this. There were a few other complications but turned out to be that the endstop connectors were the wrong way round on the RAMPS board. This disables the COM connection.
