Hi guys,

I'm getting ready to order the parts for my first rep rap, could someone check to make sure I have everything I need and that all the parts will work together?

From ultimachine;
1× RAMPS Pre-Assembled Kit Complete
Please select endstop wiring option: Mechanical Endstop Switches w/ Wiring (default)
Z Motor Connector Option: Double Connector (Best for Prusa or other 2 motors in parallel applications with our style motor connectors)
$200.00

5× Kysan 1124090 Nema 17 Stepper Motor
Connector Choice: Connectors Assembled
$107.50

1× Prusa Mendel Hardware Kit (Metric) $70.00

1× Prusa Mendel Timing Belt Set- X & Y axis $16.00

1× MakerGear Hot End Kit for 3mm Filament
Please select a barrel length: 50mm long barrel
Please select a nozzle size: 0.25mm nozzle size
Optional Add-On: None (default)
$80.00

1× Prusa PCB Heated Bed
Please select a SMT solder option: SMT components pre-assembled
$55.00

1× Wade's Nema 17 Extruder Hardware Set
Pre-Milled Bolt or Hob Yourself Kit: Includes a Hive76 Milled bolt

Printed parts from ebay

I'm not sure whether I need to buy another bed or is the heated bed sufficent?

Also could someone recommend a power supply?

Thank you for your help, I can't wait to get printingspinning smiley sticking its tongue out.

Just looking from that, yes, you'll need some kind of Y carriage upon which you can attach the heated bed. The Prusa illustrated guide shows it made cut from MDF, but I'm pretty hopeless with saws and such so I opted for the aluminum build plate from Lulzbot..

It has pre-cut and tapped holes for the belt clamps, bed springs, and your choice of boltable bearing. I built a linear bearing version and I had to be a little creative with the holes to use the standard LM8UU holders... basically, I spread the Y bars further apart and used only one screw. But if I had a way to bootstrap, I would have printed the holders that fit the boltable bearing footprint with both screws. I also like the larger holes cut for wires for the heated bed.

I also got my power supply from them and it's normally really quiet and the fan had only turned itself on once in about 10 cumulative hours of use. I like the pot on it to tune to exactly 12V, but when it arrived it was within 1% anyway. Only thing I wish is that it had a proper power cable and an on/off switch, but I had a fused and enclosed IEC C14 receptacle with switch laying around. But I'm using a Sanguinololu: with RAMPS, since there's a pin for a power supply (D12) so I would probably use a regular computer ATX supply and wire that so it would be more hands free. But take that as a grain of salt because I haven't actually tried that and, well, I don't see D12 labeled or broken out from the board and I don't really know Arduino very well but it might be easy to find anyway.

Get an 8"x8" Sheet of Borosilicate Glass from McMaster-Carr

If you want to save some on the steppers, get them from Tony on eBay

Get a roll of Kapton Tape from eBay.

Get some Aluminum Flex Couplings from Ebay. They work much better than anything you can print.

Get a 40mm or 50mm 12VDC Fan for cooling your electronics.

Once you get the printer going good, print one of these to protect the electronics.

A 0.25mm nozzle is really small. I'd recommend starting with a 0.35 or 0.5mm one. You're not really giving up hardly any detail at any of those sizes, just potential printing speed.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the help, couple more questions,

How many aluminium couplings would I need ?

Can I leave the printer running by itself or do I need to watch it in case of fire etc?

How long would say 5lb of PLA last?

Are there any easily preventable mistakes I should look out for?

Thanks guys.

2 one for each Z rod. If you want you can try the new (well newish) printed couplings nophead designed, they are more then good enough to start with.

You can leave it running, but a smoke alarm is always advised.

5lb will last a while. Its about 5 prusa sets or about 8 huxley sets.
