[Solved] hot end stopped heating up
March 10, 2012 03:59AM
I've done some upgrades to my Mendel Prusa, nothing to do with the hot end though.

Now the hot end isnt heating up. It was working before. I'm using heater wire rated 18A .
In the build I did find connecting the power wires to the resistor fiddly, so first thought was break in the power wires. But I've check for continuity between the two ends of the heater wire and yes there is continuity.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Is this a possibility:- the heater wire comes loose under the Kapton tape, while there's till continuity,
theres not enough there to carry current to heat up??

Edit:
I switched the power wires into the heated bed connector on the board & set the temp to the heated board. Same result , no heat at the hot end.

Edit:
Solved - fortunately where I had crimped the wires to the resistor, I had just put a small sleeve
of Kapton to cover, so it was easy to remove. Removing that on the red wire revealed a break in the circuit, (despite the continuity test earlier). A wire strip & re-crimp has fixed it.
