I found these bearings on Zapp, looks pretty interesting for the Y axis on a Prusa/Mendel, you could bolt them directly to the bottom of your Y carriage. And very cheap at only £4.00! It says they contain a LM8UU bearing inside them too, maybe you could pull it out for use on the X and Z axes.

Much better than the price I used on my senior design project at college! It was a laser scanner system to measure thread pitch and form of a die that cuts threads into bolts. Only about 12K for the system smiling smiley But these were the bearings we used

Wow, for some reason I thought that normal LM8UUs were ~$10 a piece. Just looked, found them in packs of 10 for $20. These don't look like such a great deal anymore.

Why pay for something you can print?

I find bearings last and are 1000 times smoother in operation than any printed bushing

I'm guessing he meant the block that the bearing was in, not the bearing itself. And we could definitely print that block.

Why buy linear bearings when you can print them : [www.thingiverse.com]

Well, I don't know about durability, the printer is in construction right now, but it slide smoothly.

That's probably more down to the quality of your rods: [hydraraptor.blogspot.co.uk]

... it's somehow misleading - only the ends are machined spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Yes I think it means the ends are machined and the screw has accuracy C7, which is nothing special.

Shardbearer,

Where did you find the LM8UU bearings for $20 per 10 pack? Thanks.
