Request for drawings rather than stl
April 24, 2012 08:24AM
Hi guys&girls
I'm looking to build my first printer with a friend and I've found files for printing all the parts. However, I have a CNC at work and it seems like all the parts could be made by it. I'm looking for a source for the original drawings rather than "printing instructions" (I understand that's the stl files) for prusa.
Thanks

The STL file is what you need for a CNC machine.

Reprap doesn't believe in engineering drawings. You'd have to generate them from the STL files yourself.

gald, .stl files are the "preffered format" for 3d printing. If you have a CNC, i'd say it's safe to assume you have some sort of CAD software. If yours can import an .stl, open it up (remember, most things are in mm not inches) and you should be able to lay down a good wireframe over it. Many CAD packages have a function to create 2d lines on the edges of 3D objects.
