Graphene abs/pla mixes

Hi community,

Has any one looked in to blending graphene & abs/pla polymers?

I've only had a surface look but a 1% mix is enough to make plastics conductive then its worth considering.

Will return with a more informed understanding.

... graphene is essentially the basis of graphite - but purified and with bigger 'flakes', so much more expensive

You should check for specs of graphite-blends as comparison ...

Hi Viktor,

I wonder are you also reading the papers on the way to work

While I am sure I am over looking many details I found this information in earlier thread which involved using a DVD drive to convert graphite oxide in to grapheme.

My thinking is whether a base material can be mixed with abs / pla extruded, then converted via a laser tool as a secondary step?

... check also for MID (Moulded Interconnect Devices) ald LDS (Laser Direct Structuring).

Here plastics are blended with some additives, that remain non-conductive after moulding/extruding, but will change to conductive when 'activated' with a laser (or galvanically coated with metal in a second step)

Looks like I might need some lasers & graphite variants so a visit to dealsextreme & alibaba's is in order.

I'll keep the thread posted with my progress.

... if you search high-power IR-laserdiodes, i have some tens of 5Watt- and 9Watt-diodes with 957nm and attached fiber salvaged from broken fiber laser pumps - look here for some hints: [objects.reprap.org]
