Marlin Configuration

Is there any common settings for the Marlin config and advanced config file, a tutorial or definitions for terminology used? sorry for my ignorance just becoming overwhelmed....

My setup is Sanguinolulu 1.3, MkII heat bed, J-Head hot endOrifice: 0.50 mm, 1.75mm pla filament .

The defaults shouldn't be too far out. The main things to change are the motherboard setting, which is the first section of the configuration.h and should be 62 for Sanguinololu, and the temperature sensor setting:
#define TEMP_SENSOR_0 1 for a 100k thermistor.
Everything else doesn't matter too much, you can always come back to it, edit, reflash you Sanguinololu, and try again. The instructions in the configuration.h file are pretty clear, just take it one section at a time, ask if there's a particular part you are stuck on.
