Motor test Problem
May 03, 2012 08:19PM
Hi-

I plugged in my electronics and tried to get a motor to move. When I plug the motor into X and E0, they make a slight hum... tell it to move, nothing happens. I plug it into Y and Z... No sound or movement. How do i make them work?

Do they "lockup" (i.e. become difficult to turn by hand) when you plug them in?
How do you have them wired?
How are the pots on the drivers set?

1. X axis and Extruder do.
2. Is there a certain way to. I have tried both ways.
3. I experimented with the X pot to no avail.

... add endstops or invert or deactivate them in the firmware ... and don't plug/unplug the motors with powered drivers, or the drivers will blow!

I connected everything, then powered up. I had an endstop on X. I did a test print and nothing. With a voltmeter ive found theres voltage (but no action) on X and Extruder... No voltage on Y and Z.
What can I do?

Now weird things are happening.

I connected all motors. Endstop on X. Powered up. Clicked move on X and the extruder motor started moving. Also No other motors will work.
What am I supposed to do... I'm so confused.

Seems like you firmware is configured for a different board.

If the extruder is moving when you try to move X, then either you have the motor plugged into the wrong stepper driver, or you have the wrong pin assignments set in firmware.

How do I change the Firmware?

Ok...

I switched to Marlin firmware and things are working better. They are still a bit sketchy, but I think I can make it work.

Thanks for all the help,

I did that few days ago and it worked so no problem.
