Marlin speed settings vs slic3r
June 21, 2012 09:46AM
Hi,

So I was looking at my config for marlin and noticed that my E max federate is 45mm/s. if I tell slic3r to print at 50. Does marlin automatically compensate and reduce the speed?

Also when slic3 makes or programs a rapid move does it put a G0 rapid so that the table moves at the max feed rate set in marlin? Or does it move at the speed setting for traverse in Slic3r?

Thank you for your help.

Yes Marlin caps the speed.

It only seems to use G1

Nopheads answer is correct but completely wrong as well.

The max E speed will limit the print speed but not to 50mm/s. That is the maximum speed it will move the filament and equals something like 1500mm/s print speed. The actual max print speed will be limited by the X and Y max speeds in the firmware. And of course your machines mechanics will limit it the most as it always does.

In practice the E limit in the firmware would only be triggered by the retract speed, which should be much faster than the extrusion speed if it is going to be useful.
