Ramps 1.4 not responding
May 26, 2012 08:09PM
Im sorry if this is a repost, but I have been sitting here for about 15 hours trying to find or fix my problem. I have Arduino 2560 with ramps 1.4 all preassembled. I am 90% sure that all my wiring is correct (I can post pictures if need be). I have led that come on all my endstops, and the led on the arduino comes on. Im using windows i have uploaded the firmware sprinter(motherboard 33) and using redsnapper to try to connect. But the problem is that my ramps boards has NO leds on and seems like its not responding, nothing happens when i try to connect and power on. Im totally new at this. Im am beyond frustrated and at a total lost of what to do. Only time i get an led to light up on my ramps is when i press the reset button, it flashes the led two times and nothing happens. Please help me.

May help to put a photo up. Any noise when you try and connect and are you using the correct baudrate?

In repsnapper you need to set the baudrate usually 115200.

give me a serial link speed of 115200. Where would i find baudrate?

Are you sure the firmware was uploaded correctly? When you connect you may hear the motor noise for a few seconds. The led doesnt usually stay on. Just flashes. What powersupply are you using?

When uploading the firmware it i got no errors(done uploading), and i saw the leds flash on the arduino. When i click connect on redsnapper i hear no noise at all. Im useing a 700 watt coolmax standard atx power supply.

In the console part of repsnapper, does it say that it connected?

yes

Does your power supply turn on ok? Test you are getting 12v on the input.

the power supply comes on great. And it should be getting 12v on input. But not sure how to test that.

ok, Well after getting some sleep and running a few test on the 12v. I found out that it was a bogus powersupply. Thanks harold. I attached it to a 350watt i had laying around and everything seems to fire up fine. My Y axis motor isnt coming on and i still cant get any software to connect to it, but at least im making some progress. Ill do something looking around before i ask another question. Thanks again.

A few things to think about as well.

In your firmware make sure you have the same baud rate selected as what you want your host program to use (in my case 115200)
Another suggestion, try a different host software just to eliminate this variable. I have the same electronic setup, but I use Repetier-Host .50 and love it.
last you can upload a this test sketch to your arduino board and see if there is an issue with your wiring (http://reprap.org/wiki/File:RAMPS1.4_TestCode.pde) All this sketch does is cycle the motors so keep your fingers away.
