Best Value Bits For RoStock

Hello all,
I have the plastic parts of a Rostock printer on the way and I am wondering which parts I should use.

I have got a list as follows but would like your input, if you think there is a better option for a similar price.

Bearings:

4x 608ZZ + 3 with printed flange.

MR105ZZ

[helidirect.com]

6x LM8UU

[create3d.com.au]

Stepper Motors

4x Nema 17

Smooth rod:

6x 762x8 mm precision smooth rod.

I am unsure were to get these, I would like them in larger dimensions

Pulleys

Timing belt pulleys: 3x GT2 plastic pulleys with 40 teeth
Timing belt: 3x 1524 mm GT2 belt (2 mm pitch).
Also unsure about these

Electronics

RAMPS 1.4, Is this the best?

That's the list for now, will probably sort out the rest once these parts are chosen.
And one more question, are 1.8 degrees the best motors? And should i just buy the strongest motor I can afford?

Thanks everybody, sorry for so many questions!

Check out the electronics from Roy @ Panucatt . We have been very happy with his Azteeg Electronics.

You can get the pulleys and belts from SDP-SI although I'm not sure if these are the least expensive.

The Azteeg X1 and X3. The X3 is the dual extruder capable version.

light weight and cheap, I guess.

I got some carbon fiber rods, 1/2" dia , 24" for $4 each.
I also got some 5/8" dia fiberglass, 42" long for $7 each

I am going to make a big one.

Okay Thanks Helsea, how does a dual extruder work? And can it work on a RoStock?

And thanks Dave, I think I will go with CF for the arms and Stainless for the Uprights.

Also are the rods just glued to the plastics or do they screw in?

Thanks,
CJ

I plan on making a simple pin jig to ensure the rods are all the same length.
Just a board with pins spaced the distance i need.

I am going to glue plastic adapters into the ends, with the VXB rod ends.
kind of permanent, unless I cut it all apart.

you need to evaluate your own sizes for stuff.

My goal is rather large, with 40 inch rods, 5 foot towers.

If you are planning on using Johan's Rostock bits without changes, take my advice with a grain of salt.

To print something that is 45" tall i would need to make the rods more like 60" wouldn't I as the arms cant go all the way up?

for 45" tall, yes you need to scale everything up. I think that is the first you've mentioned that desire.
you might struggle finding 8mm ground rod in long lengths also. They are flimsy and 30" is the longest unsupported round that VXB sells.

You might also consider spreading out the towers at the same time.
have you considered printing laying down, or dividing the part and glueing?

If you use Solidworks, I can give you my basic assembly, which you can scale and try out some dimensions.
It has basic constructs so it moves easily and helps with the brainstorming.
I could also IGES or STEP it out, or even STL or ??

Okay no that dimension was just for an idea, but I would like it as big as is possible without having to lie to down or anything. So is 40" the max?

I would say there is no max.
It all depends on your scale.
