Printing Individual Letters

I have a need to print out individual letters at small sizes. The letters need to be filled in and of varying sizes.

I've tried printing Microsoft Sans Serif at 5mm high to 10mm high and each size has different problems. For example no infill because the width of the strokes is not a multiple of my extrusion width, or blobs on the intersection of lines on the "N" as the slicer attempts to fill in a small void.

Is there a technique to print out letters at useful sizes based on the extrusion width? For example make each stroke n x extrusion width?

Note that I am not interested in serif fonts, caligraphy fonts or anything fancy.

In the CNC world "stick fonts" are used for engraving - the cutter traces over a single center line. Perhaps there is a text to gcode application for 3D printers somewhere that uses stick fonts?

Thanks, Andy
