I got my temperature set to 230.and the filament is going in to the hotend., but very little is coming out. when I pull the filament back out, it's kinda crunched up, and the end is a little bit wider... what's wrong? what else could I need to change?

what hot end are you using,

you have a gap just above your hot end.

From the picture, it looks like it's getting buckled probably between the cold end and the hot end, is the Hotend seated all the way into the cold end assuming you have a wades style cold end.

Any chance you are using 1.75mm filament in a 3mm hot end?

that I also don't know. I was looking at that piece of filament, and in the center it looks wider, but I'm confused as to how that would have melted but not the filament below it, closer to the heater? is there any point in a 1.75 hot end that would be wider? (I bought the hot end assembled, so I'm not so sure of the inner workings of it)....
