problems: heated bed and extruder motor not working
June 09, 2013 04:16AM
Hi.

I bought the mega kit on gadgets3d.

I installed everything and I got movement first time yesterday.

But I get no response at all from heated bed.

And from the extruder motor I can test it by switching the wires to the y axis and it extrudes filament, but not on the extruder place.

What could it be?

Thank you in advance
I am using marlin firmware from gadgets3d. Is this a firmware problem?

I just found out that extruder should only work on higher hot end temperatures. I have not think about that. I will try that today.

But heated bed is not working. problem remains. Any idea why is this? Ia it firmware related?

I am using exact firmware as in this link: [github.com]

Should any addition configuration be made on the firmware? Any tuturial on this?

Remember that RAMPS uses two different power supply inputs, one is just for the bed, the other for the rest of devices.

Are you applying power to the two inputs?

well, i feel stupid right know.

would you believe i thought it was a 12v and a 20v input in those connections? so I just used the 12v.

thats what i learned when i saw this picture.

so you say to connect 12v from same psu on both 12v and 20v of that pic?

well, big thanks. will try that.

RAMPS design gives you the freedom to use a different voltage for the heated bed. Whether you want to use 20V for it or not it depends on the details of your heated bed. Please note that a current is limited to 11A. I do use 12V on both rails 'cause my heated bed is for 12V.

Worst case scenario is your bed is designed for 20V, in that case it won't get hot enough.

I am using xbox 203W / 16.5A PSU unit

can i use it to connect to both 12v pins?

EDIT: This is the MK2a I bought [gadgets3d.com]

Ok, this is what the site says: "This PCB can reach 100°C in about 5-10minutes. Power requirements 12V/10A. " so I guess you are all set. 12V for everything and you're good to go.
