Portabee Mac setup HELP!
June 14, 2013 01:50PM
I'm trying to setup my Portabee printer, and I've installed the FTDI driver and connected the usb to my Mac, but when I type in "ls /dev/cu.*" in Terminal to find the port for pronterface, all i find is "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync" There is nothing that says USBSERIAL. WHAT DO I DO!?

if the device isnt listed, you may have installed the driver incorrectly, I'm not 100% sure though as I do not use Mac.

Try doing this command in terminal:
ls /dev/tty* and paste the output here

oh merp sorry was looking for a ttyACM* device hoping it would be similar to linux, someone else will have to help you there. If you're supposed to be looking for USBSERIAL, and it isnt listed it's either not connected or the drivers are not installed properly. try opening up pronterface and seeing if auto detects the com port (if the com port in pronterface is blank it didnt detect the electronics board)

Yeah I tried re-installing the driver, making sure the USB was connected, followed these steps on Portabee's website: Open a terminal (Go -> Utilities -> Terminal) and enter:

ls /dev/cu.*

This will display a list of all the usb devices connected

You are looking for one that mentions USBSERIAL eg:

/dev/cu.usbserial-A101OV1W

Copy this entire string, and this will be our Pronterface port.

But still nothing...

FIXED!

It was the USB cable that was faulty. I found another one and plugged that in and it worked!
