Hi all,

Can slicer do backlash compensation? If so where is the setting for it. I can't find it.

Thank you for your time and help.

No backlash compensation in slic3r.
If you're using belts for X and Y, you should be able to get Backlash low enough it doesn't matter.

so i have these little 28byj-48 steppers, they have backlash in the gearbox thats built in, is there a way to calibrate for this in any of the firmwares. the backlash is very consistant, when it changes directions the output just doesnt move for about 3 degrees, the same way each time.

Repetier-Firmware supports backlash compensation for x,y and z.

nice! im making a mini portable 3d printer and its using these cheap 28byj-48 motors, they have backlash and there is no way to get rid of it without making a new gearbox, and they cost 3 bucks each with a driver so pointless. now does repetier do delta bots or no?

edit: ah it does work with delta bots!

second question, what arduinos will it run on, mega due uno?

Yes, delta support is available.

A mega is good as it needs the ram. Due support will come but will take some time. Uno has not enough ram for the firmware.

Do you have a thread for your mini portable 3D printer using those 28BYJ-48 motors? I'm trying to think about a mechanical way of tensioning the belt/cable to eliminate the backlash.

why not use fishing line?

about backlash compensation, those steppers have all plastic tiny gears, and my personal opinion is they wont last long, those gears will worn out very fast, specially in reprap conditions, where prints lasts few hours.

i suggest smaller nema 17 or nema 11 stepper.

i'm hoping that i am wrong smiling smiley

good luck smiling smiley
