Overhangs

Hello,
I was curious in regards to "overhangs / supports"
Does Slic3r know when to "add" a support
or is this something I need to add (from a download)
or incorporate into my designs while still being in
Sketchup?

Eventually I will get a dual extruder, but like the design
challenge of the single extruder.

Slic3r has a section in the configuration for turning on support and some settings for that. It will automatically calculate where support is needed, however, I've had little luck with it the few times I've tried it. The support is usually difficult to separate from the object. Some people also incorporate the support into the design as an alternative. Most slicers support support. Cura does, but I have not tried it in there.
