Which Kit?

Which Kit?
July 24, 2012 09:16AM
Hi Everyone.

New here. But i've been reading through the forums for a while and have dabbled with friends printers. I'm now looking to buy a complete kit to build myself. I know this type has question has been asked a lot on here but most threads are now all pretty dated.

I'm in the UK and I want to try and get a kit as soon as possible. Obviously there is the RepRapPro kit, but otherwise not a lot. I saw this today [www.nextdayreprap.co.uk] and wondered if anyone had seen these kits? Or any any other good deals that anyone knows about?

RepRap has a lot of people specialized in their field. Specialists for Hotends, specialists for extruders, for printed parts, electronics. Collecting from these specialists and getting standard parts (screws, bearings, rods) from non-RepRap shops usually gets the best bang for the buck, even if it requires a bit more work on your own.

The kit does really look nice but I cannot seem to find anything on the sellers. Would be great if anyone knows if they are legit

Easy answer,

[reprappro.com]

Get one from RepRapPro.

Dr. Adrian Bowyer, the man who invented the RepRap runs RepRap Pro and sells kits.

Check them out.

The man who promised RepRap to bring "wealth without money", just to start his own business(es) more effectively?

... so what confused smiley

If our present community can't think/exist without a 'monetary' background, then it's maybe the better idea to spread the DIY-tools idea ...

So with time ever more people wil be able to DIY their ideas spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Wow,

Thats a pretty dark perspective; especially from the guy who designed Gen 7 electronics.

Well, he did also joke that you can "only sell one"

I don't think there is anything wrong with the RepRap creator selling kits. I mean, you created the Gen 7 open source design, and you sell parts for those...

I really like my RepRap Pro Huxley. I have used it to print lots of things, including RepRap parts.

Bought mine from them two weeks ago. It was indeed next day and I was up and printing within an evening and half a day. I did have a few issues but the guys have been great responding on e-mails and even sending out a few extra parts I was having problems with (a couple of bolts were too short) and also added a load of ammendments to their instructions.

Basically I can't recommend them highly enough and no I have no affiliation with them whatsoever apart from being a very satisfied customer.

Hi,

Try 3dstuffmaker.com

3DStuffmaker are a super team! I should know I am one of them smiling smiley

We look after our customer by providing email as well as skype support.
Even basic 3Dprinters have in excess of 680 parts- so support is crucial. We go one step further- we have fault/user difficulties feedback right into the design/manufacturing section of our team. So if something fails- or someone has troubles doing something... not only do we fix up our customers concerns by providing tech advise and free spares etc... we also build the fixes into the very next unit we make smiling smiley So we are on a continuous improvement campaign smiling smiley
This means that we have some of the best most reliable least expensive units around. We also have very detailed instruction manuals and videos.

I am no surprised that many older kit makers are shutting up shop - it's a tough game- when we began to make our units- the days of selling any-old-junk and letting the user sort out the problems were already over. So we decided to build a quality improvement system into our products.

For example, the stability of our current Prusa- today's models is such that it can be dropped fro a table and survive the impact- The units made one year ago would shatter. Another example is the time and research we pout into providing a reliable extruder. Every extruder is tested- before it is shipped! Yet all of our customer can buy (or make themselves) replacement parts and buy new add-on technologies- because we build our units to be future proof !

...and about the issue of country of origin we are German, Australian and Indian engineers and proudly international- which is why we have happy customer all over the world smiling smiley

Have fun 3D printing it is a fantastically enjoyable experience...

best regards
Rob

How was the quality of the parts and the printed parts?
Re: Which Kit?

Take some time and look at my site. We do have a very long waiting period at this time(4-6 months). But it will give you some idea on the size you can achieve with these printers.

The last post is correct, it is a very hard business, customer support takes almost 60% of our time, R&D about 20%. So build time and shipping printers can slow way down. We have been at this since 2009.

We were able to reduce our customer service time by fixing the issues that arrive right away so it does not happen again with future printers. Also I have created over 70 training videos that have really helped our customers.
