Only the Extruder not running, new machine, using replicatorg
August 16, 2012 01:13PM
Hi everybody,

I seem to have a problem that doesn't occur that often. Many topics have been regarded and hours been spend, yet no solution has been found. If anybody can be of help, i highly appreciate it! If you would recommend a different combination, please note the why as well winking smiley

The problem:
My extruder stepper won't run, al the other steppers run beatifuly and the temperatures are kept beautifully constant. The strange thing however is that this only happens with the rapligatorg software (compared to Cura).

Spec's:
  • Ramps_V1.4, (with polulu steppers) (two extruder outputs, E0 in use)
  • Wades extruder
  • Marlin 1.0.0 release candidate 2
  • oftware, replicatorg/cura 12.08 Replicatorg machine: mendel with mega/ramps electronics (57900 baud)

Checks used:
  • Checked stepper and motor for defects by swapping components, everyting ok.
  • I have checked the pinlayout in the marlin firmware.
  • By running the Cura 12.08 supplied printrun program I mangaged to use the extruder, no problem, therefore no hardware is damaged (e.g. stepper driver, mega, or ramps board) and the designated pins are ok.
  • obbeying the min temperature of 170° (also in Cura ofcourse).

The question:
Could anyone help me to get the replicatorg software to work with the extruder?

Since I have the 3D printer working with cura, I might continue with this software. Yet I find that the replicatorg software should work to. And if the solution is found, this of course will be handy for future DIY'rs whom will want to use the same combination.

For reviewing purposes, the configuration.h file from marlin has been included below:

From what I understand you need a "custom" xml config file to run a RepRap from repg.

I suggest you stay with Cura, or use Pronterface or Repetier with Slic3r.

Hi Nudel, thanks for the input. What are you're experiences with cura or Repetier, wich one would you prefer?

xml was the keyword in this case, since it is a lot of work (from what I can find) and I have only basic code experience I shall not try to get replicatorg working...
Re: Only the Extruder not running, new machine, using replicatorg

There are plenty of ready-made xml config files around, I've seen them linked on the forum several times. But - to be a bit brutal - why bother using time on software that isn't compatible with RepRap in the first place.

I personally prefer slic3r + pronsole.py (the console version of pronterface, running on a headless raspberry pi), but still use the pronterface gui to preview the gcode.

Cura is nice, but since it uses skeinforge at the base, it still has some of the old issues from skeinforge. I especially don't like how it fill the entire layer if there's a bridge. I haven't used Cura for an actual print, but the 3D gcode preview is neat.

I haven't tried Repetier myself, but it gets some good press, and looks very nice.

My suggestion is to start with slic3r and pronterface, it's simple and straight to the point.

Than I'l start with slic3r and pronterface and probably will check out repetier, thanks for your time and advice!
