Adding Support.

I have a part that will need support (no way around due to how it is made with the angles, etc...). So, I shouldn't add the support or should I? Sort of hard to add a .01mm support thread by hand.

So, do I add it or let the software and the end user add it if they want? For all I know someone with a powder printer might print it.

Are you using Skeinforge or Slic3r?

I've found the generated support in Slic3r sometimes useless (imposible to remove).

If you want to use skeinforge, activate the raft plugin. If you don't want the raft because you only want the support structure, set the base layer and interface layers to 0 in that plugin. I posted a similar question and Nophead gave me that tip.

Hope it helps

I have found the support generated by KISSlicer [kisslicer.com] to be quite effective. But you have to adjust the support flow rate to 70%, I do this manually using a python script. Support becomes quite effective but also fairly easy to remove due to low layer adhesion. Undersides of spherical surfaces still look a bit scrappy but better than not being able to print the part. Here's an example of a model I made with KISSlicer's support: [thingiverse-production.s3.amazonaws.com]

If you are making a model to share, build it as its final state will be, let the builder/printer operator worry about the support.
