extruder to hotend

How to:
attach bowden extruder directly to hotend
without E3D type connection?

E3D type heat sink on right (in photo below) with stepped transition

Bowden extruders at left, Bowden hotends in center

Threads in all are the type found on PTFE tubing adapters

Mount must:
be a heat break to keep extruder cool
have a 1.75mm bore to conduct filament into hotend
all metal (avoid PTFE)

Ideas, solutions?

Tnx

Keep the Bowden tube, just make it short... Maybe something like this:

If the hot end is mounted directly on the extruder, it is always offset to one side. Using a short tube allows the nozzle to be centered in the extruder carriage, which may or may not be an advantage, depending on your printer's layout. It prints flexible filament without problems.

I don't have a photo. (edit: Not true, see attachment.)

My Bowden extruder had 6mm threads for a tube fitting under the extruder, I believe that this is typical.

My hotend had 1/8" NPT threads for the tube adapter fitting on it.

I fit them together by purchasing a 1/8" NPT to 1/8" "nipple" fitting. Then I ran the nipple fitting though a 6mmx1mm thread die. The end result is a solid brass fitting that screws into the Bowden extruder and into the top of the E3D style heatsink. I used a 6mm nut as a spacer, but could have just cut a bit off of the top of the nipple fitting. I also drilled a small hole to add a grub screw to the fitting before I added the spacer nut, but I don't think that it was really necessary in the end.
