Worth paying extra for 'premium' ABS ?
September 30, 2012 04:52AM
Switching to ABS from PLA.

Have a Mendel90 / Parcan hot end/ Wades geared extruder/ UK based

Looking at :
ABS suppliers

They do a basic & premium ABS

Worth pay extra for 'premium' ABS ?
Apart from price whats the difference?

I'd sooner pay difference if it saves me aggro on a learning curve.

Or recommend any other suppliers? Want it on a reel.

Mike

I'd say yes beware of abs vendors. plastic thickness varies, some are full of moisture, so be sure it is packed properly. generally i buy abs from makerbot, I've had good luck on eBay though as well. if you have a vendor you friends recommend, then go for it. abs issues can cause damaged or clogged nozzles.

Not a bad price. I usually buy my material from Ultimachine which comes in @ around $18/lb for a 5lbs spool. This premium ABS looks to be priced closer to $15/lb so I would say go for it.

I think you meant 5 lb rolls for $45. You can still buy it for cheaper than this. You can still get 3 mm ABS from New Image Plastic for around $8/lb. It works well for me.
