home depot sells a spring kit [www.homedepot.com]

that contains several kinds of springs. i also has some that are 1/10inch diameter wrapped into a 1/2 inch diameter coil. very strong compression strength.

I like rubber/silicone washers instead of springs.

i seem to have to go very tight on the springs or i loose steps.

i did try a rubber grommits once instead of springs but found i couldnt get enough presure on the idler.

any chance of a pic to show how you use them greg ?

Inspired by Greg I also use a couple of layers of silicone washers made from a heat mat (like this: [www.thingiverse.com] ) on my gregstruder. I've used it for almost a year now, and it works beautifully. The tension is very high, but they have more give and caters for uneven filament way better than when I used a spring.

just as an update tried using the cable glands again and working a treat smiling smiley

problem was before i was using 60mm bolts so they were catching the stepper motor.

there from one of thse cable gland sets you can get form ebay for cheap if any one is interested.
