What kind of printer do you have? Rostock, Prusa, MendelMax?

Well, i took it as a challenge and modelled that rook!
i will print it once my printer is setup and managed few decent prints... but first, the reprappro needs to be delivered!!!sad smiley
It needs a little bit of improvement on the proportions but at least one can tell it is slightly different from the 3DS version!
what would be a reasonable size stl file for this one? i generated 1 with custom settings and it is 4.5mb.
anyways...here is an image:

Some Of The Mods I Made To my Huxley Pro

*New Bed/Sled of my own design.
*Adapted Belt Tensioning Sytem (by Welding-Rod me thinks) On X and Y Axis
*Custom Anti-Z Backlash Setup with extra m5 Nuts
*Alternate Carriage with extra 6mm linear bearings
*Dual opposing fans riding the x-axis
*Custom built hot-end

There are other mods I want to make, but she just works too damn good for me to justify taking her apart winking smiley

Where can I get the STL?

OK, maybe not a resolution champion, but in Texas, we do it big.
350mmx75mmx25mm print.

this is Mitus, praying the black PLA spool holds on for the completion of a 5 hour print.

.3 layer, 25% infill, .6 skin thickness
kisslicer, with support

size matters, ask any woman.smileys with beer

The name of the printer is Mitus? Are the designs for that printer available?

of course. solidworks, IGES, STEP, STL, by email,
( I need to post them on thingEverse eventually)

PM me I guess.

It started out as a huge Ultimaker style machine. NEMA 23's 1000x600x500.
That went well but I only had one bearing per axis in the head, then abandoned that for linear bearings. Also, the head and bars weighed about 15lbs, (20mm bars!) so I shifted it to gantry.

She looks nice smiling smiley

You should post it up on GitHub or Thingiverse!

I have been looking to build a monster sized machine. I have quality figured out... Now I want huge prints!

some pics from when it was an Ultimaker style (not sure what the name of crossed bars is actually called).

I should have used IGUS 20mm aluminum precision bars and bushings. cheaper and lighter than VXB stuff (no offense)

Hmm. Well with a lil bit of trouble, I've put it on my own hosting.

Let's go in the other direction! Like Davew_tx said, size matters!

Big picture on this link... dial-up beware!

The bust was printed on a Makerbot Replicator 2. The thing it's laying on is 1/2 of a toilet printed out of recycled milk jugs.

Approximately 3-4 mm layer height, printed in HDPE. We were experimenting with how adding detergent bottles affects the color. You only need about 5-10% of colored flakes in the natural to make quite a difference!

"Hmmm....I assume you are talking bank account......" grinning smiley

Very impressive machine you've got there.

=================================

Nice prints everyone, like the "illuminated Yoda".

Maybe someone could design a stand of some sort with built in batteries and LED facing up to place such prints on, would look great at night!

3-4mm layer height? let's see a picture of that machine, for sure (if you can).

Mitus has about $3k of spending to replicate it. it's mostly up on ThingEverse now.
I've probably wasted about $1k in random dead-end alleys and design changes.
Not bad versus a 10x6x6 Replicostly 2X from Rape-r-bot.winking smiley

I'm hoping to print some $1k parts soon, to recoup the costs quickly.
(try to quote a large part at REDeye, and you'll realize their eyes are red cuz they're high as a kite)

Our printer is actually a re-purposed DynaTorch plasma cutter. We just added a z-axis and an extruder. Mechanically, the Z-axis is able to do sub-millimeter movements, but when you're printing things like a 3x7 foot canoe, or a life-size toilet, it just doesn't make sense to print at that resolution.

Since when did "sense" enter the equation? winking smiley

Newbs. Here is mine:

It was printed from this specially customized elegant printer:

Here is actually a print after calibration:

Its decent I think for a duct tape printer that used toilet paper for linear bearings.

Edit: note the exposed lm8uu on the left Y rod, it was sticking so much that I just took it out of it's socket and replaced it with toilet paper. Yeah I know, I'm a creative reprap "developer" like that.

If you're using it to make parts for a better build, I have much respect for you. That's reprapping in all of it's glory!

Indeed I am! Here is what the old printer gave birth to:

I'm also building a CNC router right now but haven't had much free time lately.

@ Idolcrasher

Ok I'll post a couple of shots now.

In the spirit of "simple is beautiful", here are a couple pictures of a 40mm box printed on my work-in-progress h-bot.

I'm not quite to the level of the previous boxes posted, but I'm certainly happy with the progress I've made in the last couple of days.
