35amp power supply?

I was just given a 12-15v 35 amp lab power supply, I'm in the process of building my first reprap, a prusa i2 with a sanguinololu board. Will this power supply be overkill or damaging for this purpose? I am at work right now and will provide pics and more information when I get home.

Not at all damaging, UNLESS you have a short circuit condition. Please make sure to apply appropriate fusing on it's output(s) to avoid potential fire safety issues in the event of a short circuit condition in your reprap.

Overkill? Maybe...but I'd rather have a power supply with headroom (excess available power) than one that's either marginal (max output ~ equal to required) or one that IS under-powered.

Lucky you. 35A lab-grade supplies ain't cheap.

Thank you, I had two to choose from, just wanted to make sure I grabbed the right one, we used to use them to power our light boards at work to tell mechanics what machines needed assistance, we've since upgraded to a tv screen, and they've been sitting ever since

Yeah, I have a few linears (and a few switched-mode) that were pulls from industrial equipment that being overhauled, and were on their way to the dumpster, although perfectly serviceable. Nothing quite so juicy, but even so. solid power is a good thing, far better than computer supplies in my opinion.

If they also happen to have any old din-rail terminal blocks they're pitching, it might be nice to use them as an intermediate distribution panel...fwiw...

I connected the power supply and successfully tested the X axis stepper motor, but there was a high pitched noise coming from the board, so I shut everything off for now, I'm not sure if this is normal or not, some input would be greatly appreciated.


The board was fully assembled and tested, the pololu pots were turned full counter clockwise and then back 1/4 turn, and the noise subsided the moment I turned the power supply off
