invert 3d model into mold for casting?

Is it possible to convert a 3d model in .stp format into a mold for casting that can be printed? the file is perfectly within allowable geometry a mold would allow, i cant remake the model from scratch in an inverted format, the dimensions are way too specific, i need some sort of function that will do it. i use autodesk inventor and i am pretty sure there is no way to do this in inventor without a total rebuild. If there is another program out there capable of this please share. i know i could just make a mold of the model in a casting medium but some details are way to small to be molded with latex or plaster or silicone.

Thanks in advance

You need to do a boolean subtraction. I use 3DS Max, this is an easy operation. I think Rhino 3d will also do boolean operation.

How about the "Parametric two-part mold generator for OpenSCAD".
Of course you will need an STL file to be able to use it...
