Where to find the McWire plans?
December 08, 2008 07:01PM
First I would like to say hello and introduce my self. My name is Charles and I am wanting to build a Darwin and after careful and thorough research I have come to the conclusion that the best course of action is to build a McWire and have it print the parts for my Darwin. Unfortunately I can not seem to locate any plans for the McWire. I see the parts list but no technical drawings or any assembly instructions. I am sure that I am just overlooking them somewhere. The idea I have in my head is to use MDF or a good solid plywood instead of the laser cut parts. After all this only has to print a set of Darwin parts so I can build the Darwin. So if anyone can point me in the right direction I would be forever great full.

I am familiar with this forums host site. I have spent the last few weeks reading all I can on the main site but have yet to come across a single technical drawing or assembly plan.

After spending the last 3 hours searching the whole site I found a link to the McWire build. The link was hidden in the RFF store under the parts kits. So here is the link for all others in the future who may be searching for the mcwire build plans. [www.reprap.org]

Welcome to the team SCphotog!

Yes, there is a lot of info here, and it takes some time to digest it all. There's a documentation page that has the link to the McWire page, as well as a lot of other good stuff. It's linked (a little non-obviously at first) from the "Documentation" heading on the main page, and is at:

[reprap.org]

Lots of very good info on that page. The build documents, including the McWire doc have a level of detail I've not seen anywhere else; I've been very impressed!

You'll notice that the forum software shortens links to just the domain name; I think Bob actually posted the same link that you eventually found the hard way. smiling smiley

Don't worry, asking odd questions on this forum seems to be something of a rite of passage; I know I asked a pile of questions that I was able to answer myself within minutes of posting them. Google is actually quite good as well, sometimes it's faster to search for a page than to find it manually in the documentation, assuming you know what you're looking for.

Enjoy!

My apologies to Mr. Teeter. I am accustomed to the phpbb and vBulletin style message boards where the URL is displayed in full.

Thanks for the welcome Wade.

Thanks for the link Mr. Higgs.
