Smoke/steam coming from new J-head hot end

I got a new 1.75mm hot end in today. Hooked it up and when I went to print, steam or smoke was coming out of the nozzle with the extruded plastic. This is the same PLA filament I was running before I changed the hot end so I don't think it could have picked up a ton of moisture while I was changing the hot end. Could the hot end have moisture in it? I just thought it was kind of weird. At first I thought my thermistor was way off and I was melting the PTFE tube or something but this doesn't seem to be the case. I did some test prints and the pla seems to be extruding ok, so the temp cant be way off.

well it just spit out some more smoke, its causing random clogging of the nozzle. Is it possible I just hit a bad spot on my spool?

Its still smoking every now and then too.

This is really weird.

If it is a new hotend is it a new thermistor too? If so have you selected the correct one in your firmware? You could be burning your filament

I was thinking the same thing at one point. But If i turn the temp down it doesn't extrude. Its from the same company that I got my printer, same hot end that came with it. Same thermistor.

Is it possible its the teflon tape on the threads? just a shot in the dark.

I did push the teflon wire coverings for the resistor farther down to protect it from shorting against the heat block, could these be burning?
