wifi control of 3D Printer... no LCD required

just wondering if any RepRapers have ordered the " Doodle3D " wi-fi Box ?

I am under the impression it's able to load g-code & stl files from the cloud & store prints to an sd-card attached to the tiny wi-fi box... & if that's not enough you can load prints to the cloud & control the printing process directly from any laptop, iPad, iPhone. Tablet adjusting fans, temp speed etc..

Wow !

Still in Kickstarter, doesn't look to have shipped yet. Could be OK for sending things you have already tweaked the parameters. At this point I'd rather have a Wifi on an Arduino shield so I can still use Pronterface to tune parameters. I could see the Doodle box as being handy if one had a farm of printers and set designs in a production environment.

EDIT: Looks like it's only for their Doodle tablet style interface. Cool concept, not my cup of tea but I like the reasoning.

Yup... it was a KickStarter campaign... but I believe you can still order on their site.

note: don't take too much notice of the childish interface as they're already planning on creating different skins.

I have a few spare 7 " tablets here. So I plan to keep a tablet partially mounted to the printer. if I wish to walk around... I can simply detach the interface & keep an eye on the print progress from anywhere in the house or even if I'm out & about.. if I were to want to start a print while abroad.. not that I feel I really need such a feature... so far.... theoretically it starting to look like a really powerful little white box, time will tell...

Now I'm going to ramble on a bit..... I envisage in the not to near future having the ability scan something you see in the street or store, design the prototype right there on the spot at hit print & by the time I get home it's printed. I believe it's already possible to simply create 3D scans with an iPhone of an object aka - "123D" the iPhone App... simply save to STL & hit print... anywhere, anytime. I presume used in the wrong hands one could simply walk into any store, scan, walk around an object & hit print.
I also foresee regulations being adopted by governments... If you want to own a 3D printer you'll have to have it licensed... just like a TV license or gun license. Every printed project will contain nano dots.. to trace back to the original owner.
(this last topic probably deserves a thread of its own .. yes ? ) a very powerful little box... but should be used appropriately... yes ?

I foresee most printers will eventually go this way shortly. Wireless control of a print is a really great feature.
Arduino already has the possibility to connect wireless. I don't understand enough regarding RAMPS, perhaps someone already has a wi-fi setup for RAMPS ... yes ?

No, but I use Octoprint on a Raspberry Pi with a WiFi adaptor. Cost me about $75 for the computer, Wifi, and SD card. I printed a case for it, and it makes my printer wireless.

If every printed object needs nanodots by law, i will do my best violating it.
