A good Reprap kit to buy?
June 06, 2013 06:22AM
Well a few days ago i posted a topic here and im finally convinced that ill be buying a Reprap kit.

My budget is GBP 500, and ive seen reprappro.com Mono Mendel which is very good by the looks of it.

Do you guys no any other alternative kit for that price? i want to look at all my option. Ive heard about the mendel 90 , but where can i buy the kit?

Mendel90 complete kits for sale
Mendel90 updates

The price is £499 plus 20% VAT (in the EU), plus insured shipping for the UK £15.
Ergo, the total price is £613,80 which is £113,80 over your budget, BUT well worth it!

I’ve just finished building a Mendel 90 kit ( My 1st ever 3d Printer) and can highly recommend one from a new users standpoint. The entire process from ordering/payment/delivery/packing/ instructions was fantastic.
The build process took me around 20 hours as I wanted to be sure I wasn’t doing anything stupid and I’m not great at soldering.
After following the instructions to configure the firmware and level the printbed I was able to print the sample g-code file without too much drama, granted it was a little rough but nothing that some fine tuning and tweaking wont improve.
All in all definitely one for your consideration

The VAT on £499 at 20% is £99.80, where do you get 205 from?

Typo? 20% == 205 on standard English keyboard if shift doesn't kick in.

How difficult was it to make it print decently?

Not very difficult really just ensure it's all put together square and level.

I am in the middle of building my reprappro Mono Mendel kit. Feel free to follow along at my tumblr (on my signature).

I am definitely enjoying it so far! I wish I could build it all in one sitting, but life gets in the way.

Adilmalik, a little word of warning. I spent months getting a prusa printer to run (still does not work). If you are not an expert with arduino and electronics, only buy from a place where support and documentation are excellent, or you are fucked.
just my 0,02€

For printers like the Prusa i2, RepRapPro variants and electronics like RAMPS or Gen7, this would be the RepRap wiki, of course.

Hey,

The price of £499 + delivery actually includes the VAT already. I know this because I have recently bought a mono mendel from reprappro. As one of the guys mentioned, if you're new to 3D printing (like me) then it is critical to buy something from a company with a track record of delivering what you order plus backing it up with great support. The support I have had from RepRapPro has been nothing short of outstanding (Ian is a legend). Don't think twice about it, go ahead and place your order .... Ps the other thing that made me buy from them was the option of upgrading to the colour "tri" mendel at a later stage for no more than buying it all as a package,

Have fun with your new venture!
