Sprinter compiling and upload to I/O problem SOLVED

Can anyone help me on this one?

I just upgraded my laptop from Vista to Win 7

Am also upgrading my printer with a new Extruder/hotend (MixShop G-1)

I made necessary sprinter changes, compiled without problem, but
when uploading to i/o board I get the following messages.

First, I normally used comm 5, but computer said "no comm 5, OK to use comm 3" and I said yes

Then I recompiled again and uploaded to I/O and received the following message:

******************

Binary sketch size: 37450 bytes (of a 258048 byte maximum)
avrdude: stk500v2_command(): unknown status 0xc8
avrdude: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.

avrdude: stk500v2_command(): unknown status 0x01
avrdude: stk500v2_disable(): failed to leave programming mode

*****************

I rechecke all connections and they seem OK

I don't see any sprinter changes I made except a few notes (commented out) and change to calibration line

Can anyone explain what the problem is?

I am using Ramps 1.4 and arduino software ver 23 (as recommended by MixShop) and a MixShop Prusa/Mendel kit.

Is the connector on the reset jumper on, is the board being powered by the USB,
Are file preferences set in arduino 23.
Is the avrdude file in the right place and the right version?
Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestions which gave me some some avenues to pursue.

I found that the Arduino drivers had not survived the upgrade from Vista to Win 7, but are now back in place. My com ports got shuffled as well, and are now corrected.

I found a good site called [www.nextdayreprap.co.uk] that had some excellent step by step help in getting Arduino drivers and com ports straight.

All is well, now just need to install my new extruder and hopefully will be printing up a storm.

Once again, thanks guys!
