Electronic parts &&| mechanical parts shop close to San Francisco?

Dear all,

I will travel to San Francisco next week and wondering if someone can point me to a place where I can buy electronic and/or mechanical parts maybe even filament. I am from Germany and the prices in the US are much nicer than ours smiling smiley Not sure if something like this exists at all.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Not sure where you got the idea supplies in the U.S. would be cheaper. Don't forget published prices are without taxes there.

Sales tax in the Bay Area is about 9%. I don't know of any 3D printer or robotics retail shops in the city of SF. There are many that are Internet based. There are several general electronics stores in the Bay Area though. Check out the Fry's stores. The selection of discrete components and parts can be hit and miss but they have lots of tools and accessories and it's one of the places to go for computers and computer supplies. You'll need to get down to the Santa Clara/San Jose (Silicon Valley proper) area for the larger more specialized stores. Jameco in Belmont and Anchor in Santa Clara are well known electronics component stores. There are others.

Thanks vegasloki,

this was the information I was looking for. I am aware of local taxes but since the exchange rate from Dollar to Euro is quite interesting these days, it is cheaper. Also we do have 19% tax in Germany which is quite higher. In addition if I buy online in an US store the shipment is quite often more than the costs for the parts.

Best regards,
Mike

@Max3d: Don't forget, if the total value of all goods purchased exceeds 450€ then you must declare in customs (Zoll) i.e. go through the RED exit and not the GREEN exit.
