replacing atmega chips
August 25, 2013 11:58AM
hi,

i bought this an azteeg based design from a ebay(china based vendor) to give it a try. i learned that its processor is an at mega 644p. i got a problem flashing the firmware and also learned that it is a common issue with the processor.

question is: can i change that to a mega2560 without further changes?

thanks in advance

you would be best off having a look at both datasheets to see if they are pin to pin compatible first, even then the supporting circuitry may not be the same

The mega2560 is not (pin) compatible with the atmega644p. You can use an atmega1284p.

Although I doubt the atmega is your problem. They are tough little chips. You should do some more troubleshooting before you pull the soldering iron out. Can you program it through the ISP?

read here on how to setup the chip for use in arduino.

[sanguino.cc]

the dip is shown , but it works for the array chip as well.
